The 2017 Queensland Oaks takes centre stage at Doomben Racecourse this Saturday, betting tips and the latest odds on the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival feature detailed below.
The move from Eagle Farm to Doomben sees this year’s $500,000 Group 1 Queensland Oaks take place over 2200m instead of the 2400m and the event has attracted a capacity line-up of three-year-old fillies.
Heading the latest Queensland Oaks betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $3.30 to continue her winning streak is the Chris Waller-trained Egg Tart.
Winx ($1.90 in 2015) was the last Queensland Oaks favourite to salute for the punters and, like Egg Tart, she is prepared by Waller and won the race at Doomben not Eagle Farm.
It’s been over a month since Egg Tart’s latest run, a narrow Morphettville win in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2010m) on May 6, and history shows that fillies backing up off a The Roses run a fortnight earlier have the best strike rate in the race.
If Egg Tart doesn’t get the job done, the bookies have last start Group 2 The Roses winner Kenedna ($5) as the next best to turn the tables on the favourite after her second in the Australasian Oaks.
Occupying the third line of betting at an equal $7.50 are then Waller’s last start Gold Coast Bracelet winner Dawn Wall to be ridden by Hugh Bowman and the Stuart Webb-trained Ana Royale dropping in distance after her Group 3 SA Fillies Classic (2500m) win on May 20.

1st
#6 Oklahoma Girl ($9.50)
Waller saddles-up seven in the race including the favourite Egg Tart, but love the price and form lines on his last start The Roses runner-up at the track. Single-figure hopes have dominated the Queensland Oaks results from the past decade and she just fits that profile representing outstanding value. Drawn ideally and has continued to rise through the ranks this prep. Her latest run saw her run a nose second to Kenedna over 2000m and she looks like she’ll appreciate the extra 200m. Excellent 70% place rate and is the improver.
2nd
#1 Kenedna ($5)
The Roses form has been the one to follow into the Queensland Oaks over the years and that could be even truer this year with the Group 1 taking place at the Doomben track. Weir’s consistent Not A Single Doubt filly was flying in Adelaide with back-to-back wins and the close second in the Oaks. She then travelled to Brisbane for the tight Group 2 success and the 2200m should suit according to Weir. Still on the up and has John Allen in the saddle again. Third highest Win Rate (43%) and second best Place Rate (79%), plus has the previous winning form at the track.
3rd
#2 Egg Tart ($3.30)
She’s the deserving favourite based on her gun form being undefeated this prep, but it’s been a while between runs so she gives the fitness edge away. Still, she was brought on with a recent trial at Rosehill that jockey Kerrin McEvoy was pleased with and she could prove the one to run down having beaten a number of the other key contenders.
