Classy mare Another Dollar continued her good record at Doomben Racecourse in Brisbane on Saturday handing trainer Chris Waller with his first win in the 2020 Premier’s Cup.
Waller saddled-up five of the runners in this winter’s Group 3 $125,000 Premier’s Cup (2200m) and the win by the stable’s Ocean Park mare Another Dollar gave him a victory in every major Queensland staying race.
The five-year-old lumped the equal 58kg top weight around in the quality handicap, but she was too good for her rivals late producing a powerful surge in the closing stages to defeat the Michael Costa-trained lightweight La Pulga (54kg) with another Waller runner Alward finishing off the Premier’s Cup trifecta in third.
The win was Another Dollar’s second from nine runs at Doomben where she boasts a further six other minor placings.
She won Randwick’s Listed Gosford Cup (2000m) three back before a close third behind stablemate Le Juge at Doomben on May 30 in the Group 3 Chairman’s Handicap (2000m).
Last start at Eagle Farm she raced flat when six lengths back seventh behind yet another Waller-trained Queensland winner Brimham Rocks in the Group 3 Tattersall’s Cup (2400m).
A drop-in distance and the give out of the track on a Soft-rated course at Doomben however had Another Dollar back in winning form.
Jockey Luke Dittman came aboard Another Dollar in the Premier’s Cup and gave the winner a peach of a ride, which Waller’s stable rep Paul Shailer was quick to credit post-win.
“She was good today, aided by a lovely ride, got up into a nice spot,” he said.
“Today she was a lot more prominent.
“Lukey (Dittman) got the best out of her over the concluding stages.
“Luke switched the stick from the right hand to the left hand…that can be very effective over those closing stages.
“Great for the owner Noel, I told him she couldn’t win, so he’ll be wrapped with me!”
The field was led around by Waller’s Japanese-bred Satono Rasen, while Dittman had Another Dollar handy on the speed fourth the outside before charging down the outside over the final furlong.
La Pulga and Alward also finished in the money off on-speed runs.
The Premier’s Cup is traditionally held as a lead-up into the Group 2 Brisbane Cup (2400m), but with no edition of the latter taking place in 2020 due to COVID-19, Another Dollar could head back to Sydney now for a shot at the $200,000 Listed Grafton Cup (2350m) on July 9.
