The Nivison is a key support act on an exciting race card now headlined by the lucrative $2 million Group 2 Hill Stakes (1900m) for Spring Cup-bound stayers.
Potential lead-up races include the Group 2 Golden Pendant (1400m) and Newcastle’s Group 3 Tibbie Stakes (1400m).
After contesting The Nivison mares may target a next-up run in the Group 2 $500,000 Hot Danish Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill or even the $1 million The Gong (1600m) at Kembla Grange.
Another potential next-up option for mares out of The Nivison field is the Group 3 Begonia Belle Stakes (1100m) at Flemington on Derby Day and Minhaaj (2021) was the last to do the double.

Going for the in-form Peace Treaty to make it a hat-trick in The Nivison after two lead-up wins in easier company. The Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained four-year-old saluted at Sale before a win here at Rosehill on September 28 carrying 56.5kg to victory. She is proven now at the track, has won three of her six starts over the 1200m, and drops back in weight now ready for her shot at the Group 3.

The official The Nivison 2024 Nominations are taken by Racing NSW on the Monday of race week.
The Nivison History
The Nivison was inaugurated in 1994 as the Tarien Quality Handicap. It was originally named in honour of renowned mare Tarien, who took out the Warwick Stakes twice and also the 1953 George Main Stakes and Craven Plate. The Nivison received its current name in 1997.
In 2011, the City Tattersalls Club rescheduled their meeting to mid-October. Prior to this, the Nivison was held during September.
Initially a non-black type event, the Nivison was upgraded to Listed status in 1997. In 2013 it became a Group 3 race and has maintained that status since then.
The Nivison has always been held at Royal Randwick and has always been held over 1200m. The Nivison was not held in 2007 due to the equine influenza.
Notable The Nivison winners include Aunty Mary (1994), Razor Blade (1998), Our Sweet Moss (2005) and Madame Pedrille (2009). The Nivison results and winning times since 2000 are provided below.
The event was moved from Randwick to Rosehill ahead of the 2023 edition.
