Trainer Mark Kavanagh may have missed out on the big on at Caulfield on Saturday, but did see some success at the meeting when his gelding Here De Angels won the $125 000 Group 3 Rokk Ebony Rubiton Stakes (1100m) in a record-breaking run.
Ridden by star hoop Michael Rodd, Here De Angels ($7) beat home the $3.30 favourite and top-weight Lucky Secret by a head with Rostova ($21) in third.
A six-year-old son of Dehere, Here De Angels blasted 0.13 seconds Intelligent Stars? previous race record when he ran a sensational 1:01.73s over the 1100m sprint feature.
Peter Moody?s classy filly Avenue ($4) set a speedy pace early on but fell back in the final metres to finish fifth, just ahead of the other highly fancied filly in the field, Irish Lights ($5) who came in sixth.
On Saturday, Kavanagh?s CF Orr Stakes runner, 2009 Melbourne Cup winner Shocking, ran a dismal second last in the Group 1 feature.
Here De Angels is showing perfect form for the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate in two weeks time. For more Oakleigh Plate news click here.
