2010 Herbert Power Stakes Final Field Features Caulfield Cup Hopefuls

One of the most anticipated showdowns at this Saturday’s Caulfield Guineas Day is the $200,000 Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes (2400m) where a number to top gallopers will fight for a Caulfield Cup ballot exemption.

The 2010 Sportingbet Herbert Power Stakes has attracted a 10-horse final field with the three most notable entries being Moudre, Linton and Precedence who need to win to secure a spot in the 2010 Caulfield Cup Saturday week.

Following the 2010 Caulfield Cup third declarations Moudre (28th), Linton (25th) and Precedence (27th) are still well down the order of entry and far from certain starters in the $2.5 million handicap.

As the Herbert Power Stakes winner will be free from elimination for the Caulfield Cup, Saturday’s showdown is sure to be a hotly contested affair.

Currently Precedence and Moudre are paying $11 in the Caulfield Cup betting at [sportsbet], while Linton is at a longer quote of $21, but the markets will dramatically change after Saturday’s Caulfield race results.

The Bart Cummings-trained Precedence has drawn ideally for the race coming up trumps with barrier one.

Due to be ridden by Blake Shinn, Precedence is coming off a last start victory in the JRA Cup at Moonee Valley and is likely to start as the odds-on favourite.

Lloyd Williams’ Linton has also drawn well with barrier three for Saturday, the JRA Cup third placegetter an excellent lightweight chance due to carry just 54.5 kg with Nicholas Hall aboard.

Meanwhile the Ciaron Maher-trained Moudre will jump further afield from gate nine with Craig Williams in the mount in the five-year-old’s last ditch attempt at a Caulfield Cup run after finishing third in the Naturalism Stakes last start.

Other notable runners in the Herbert Power Stakes field include the Tony Vasil-trained Apprehend in barrier seven, also still in contention for the Caulfield Cup, and Allan Fitzgerald’s lesser known Jeune gelding Jeuneys End.

Leading online bookmaker [sportsbet] are set to open their Herbert Power Stakes betting shortly, so get ready to secure the best odds on your favourites by signing up with them today!
