2010 Schillaci Stakes Final Field & Betting Preview

Caulfield Racecourse is set to host a cracker day of racing this Saturday featuring an elite line-up of Group races including the $200,000 Group 2 Schillaci Stakes (1000m).

A quality weight-for-age showdown, the 2010 Schillaci Stakes final field has drawn nine top gallopers including Peter Moody’s unbeaten mare Black Caviar making her much-awaited return to racing and opening as the hot $1.75 favourite at [sportsbet].

Four-year-old Black Caviar has won all five of her career races to date, including her last start victory in the Group 1 Australian Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley back in January.

Black Caviar is resuming racing on Saturday after a lengthy spell, but looks to have lost none of her flair running an impressive 800m hit-up earlier in the month.

Set to jump from an ideal barrier two draw, Black Caviar will reunite with her regular rider Luke Nolen in the Schillaci and is heading towards the Group 1 Patinack Farm Classic at Flemington on Emirates Stakes Day.

Star Witness is the $5.50 second favourite to win the Schillaci Stakes after coming up trumps in the barrier draw with gate two.

The Danny O’Brien-trained colt last raced in the Vain Stakes at Caulfield on August 14 finishing a gallant third to Toorak Toff and should be fresh after a month break.

Other horses with claims on Saturday getting attention from the punters include Lee Freedman’s consistent five-year-old First Command at $6.50 and Paul Messara’s Mic Mac paying $7 through Sportsbet.

The 2010 P F D Food Services Schillaci Stakes is scheduled as Race 4 at Caulfield on Saturday and is due to jump at 2:00pm.

Note: Lee Freedman’s colt Pellizotti has been scratched from the 2010 Schillaci Stakes field
