Interstate raider Gathering has dominated the 2010 Railway Stakes at Ascot today. Gathering claimed victory in the Group 1 race after leading for the entire 1600m distance from local horses Famous Roman and Megatic.
Jockey Craig Williams pushed Gathering to the lead in the $1million Railway Stakes after the jump and he was never headed. Rounding the corner into the straight Gathering kicked into top gear and despite good runs from local runners Famous Roman and Megatic, clinched an emphatic win of 2 1/4 lengths for owners Patinack Farm Racing.
In a photo for the minor placings, Famous Roman just edged out Megatic with Grand Nirvana making up the first four.
Trained by John Thompson, four-year-old gelding Gathering’s career record now stands at 20 starts for 4 wins, 3 seconds and 3 thirds, and more than $980,000 in prize money.
