Friday Horse Racing – January 14th – 2011 Canterbury Classic Preview & Field

Before the red hot racing action of the 2011 Magic Millions Race Day lights up the Gold Coast track tomorrow, there are five excellent TAB meetings running around the country today including twilight meets at Moonee Valley and Canterbury.

Originally six meets were scheduled for January 14th, however the Mornington programme has been abandoned due to the weather and track conditions.

The biggest event on the card for today is the $100,000 Listed Canterbury BMW Classic (1100m) running as Race 5 at Canterbury tonight and where an open field is currently lead by $3.50 Winter King through Luxbet.

Below is a rundown of all the Friday race meetings running this afternoon and this evening along with the jump time of Race 1 at each track and some of our best tips of the day.

  • Wagga (NSW) Race 1 jumps at 1:18pm (AEDST) – Bet now at Luxbet

Ahead of tonight’s elite metropolitan race meets, Wagga in country New South Wales will host a quality eight-race programme kicking off at 1:18pm (AEDST) with Race 1 – the $10,000 Crestia Carpets Maiden Handicap (1600m).

  • Cessnock (NSW)Race 1 jumps at 1:43pm (AEDST) – Bet now at Luxbet

One of the three TAB meets running in New South Wales today is at Cessnock where the first of seven races, the $10,000 Guesthouse Mulla Villa Maiden Plate (1350m), is due to jump at 1:43pm (AEDST).

Tip of the day at Cessnock – #4 Catcha Rising Star to win Race 7 – the $10,000 Samurai Clothing Benchmark 50 Handicap (1150m).

  • Sunshine Coast (QLD)Race 1 jumps at 3:10pm (AEDST) – Bet now at Luxbet

Flooding and heavy rain has forced the abandonment of a number of Queensland race meetings over the last week, but today’s bumper 10-race programme at the Sunshine Coast is set to go ahead after being transferred to the Cushion Track.

Race 1 – the $10,000 SPC Cleaning Maiden Plate (1600m) gets things underway at 3:10pm (AEDST) before some of the afternoon’s highlights take place.

Best race to watch out for is Race 4 – the $20,000 Brackenridge Tavern Open Handicap (1100m) where our tip is #9 Kamboja to win after recent good form.

  • Moonee Valley (VIC)Race 1 jumps at 6:45pm (AEDST) – Bet now at Luxbet

Tonight a cracker eight-event card will run under the lights at Victoria’s esteemed Moonee Valley track, starting with the $30,000 Webb Australia Handicap (1200m) where our pick of the field is #1 Anguissola.

Other highlights on the Moonee Valley programme include Race 4 – the $55,000 Essendon Mazda 55 Second Challenge Heat 10 (955m) where #7 Bellantina is hard to go past despite their wide draw.

Saving the best until last, Friday night’s final race meeting is running at Canterbury featuring seven great races including Race 1 – the $27,000 Canterbury BMW 3 Series Handicap (1550m) at 7:00pm (AEDST) where #2 Calypso Dream is our favourite to win.
