The 2011 Golden Slipper second acceptances were taken yesterday with more than 200 two-year-olds left in contention for the $3.5 million showdown set to light up Rosehill Gardens on Saturday April 2.
The list of juveniles vying for a spot in the 2011 Golden Slipper final field was cut from 1238 at first acceptance stage.
Patinack Farm boasts the largest number of Golden Slippers Stakes nominees still entered with 35 of their juveniles.
Noteworthy Patinack Farm representatives in the Golden Slipper 2011 nominations include unraced More Than Ready filly Win For Naara, General Nediym gelding Boys On Tour and brilliant Testa Rossa filly Pane In The Glass unbeaten in her three career starts including back-to-back wins in the Inglis Nursery and Inglis Classic, all trained by John P Thompson.
Darley Australia Racing Syndicate along with chief trainer Peter Snowden also have a high number Golden Slipper Stakes entries with 29 juveniles still vying for a spot in the Golden Slipper Stakes final field.
Leading Snowden’s charge to produce Darley’s first Golden Slipper winner is unbeaten Elusive Quality colt Sepoy.Sepoy won the Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes (1000m) on debut at Flemington on October 3 and then stormed home to an emphatic 3 ½ length win in the Listed Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) at Caulfield on January 26.
Bookmakers acted accordingly and have Sepoy installed as the clear favourite to win the 2011 Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield on February 26, a win in which will secure Sepoy as the favourite in the Golden Slipper odds when markets are released.
The top two placegetters in the Blue Diamond Fillies Preview are also on way to the prestigious Golden Slipper Stakes with Peter Moody’s Encosta De Lago filly One Last Dance bringing her record to two wins from as many starts when she narrowly defeated the Tim Martin-trained Exceed And Excel filly Anevay on Australia Day.
Along with Sepoy, expected favourite in the future 2011 Golden Slipper odds is Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Karuta Queen.
Neville Layt’s daughter of Not A Single Doubt, Karuta Queen remains unbeaten having won all four of her race starts.
Karuta Queen was simply stunning last start in the Magic Millions, blowing her competition away to win by three lengths.
Another prominent racing enterprise with multiple Golden Slipper entries is Victory Lodge, still with 17 two-year-olds in contention including the up-and-coming Flying Spur filly Satin Shoes.
Chris Waller has 11 youngsters from his stable still entered for the Golden Sipper including Fast And Sexy, while Gerald Ryan may have a smaller contingent with just six Golden Slipper Stakes hopefuls but included in them are in-form Snitzel filly Hollyweird and improving Redoute’s Choice colt Godspeed.
The 2011 Golden Slipper Stakes final field will be released on Tuesday, 29 March 2011 and published here at Races.com.au.
