The 2011 Rubiton Stakes nominations were released today, the sprint showdown running at Caulfield for this Saturday’s CF Orr Stakes Day set to feature a number of gallopers that were meant to contest the abandoned WJ Adams Stakes.
With Caulfield a washout last Saturday and the Listed WJ Adams Stakes not re-scheduled, many of the horses from the original WJ Adams Stakes field have been nominated for the $125,000 Group 3 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) instead.
However the top-line WJ Adams Stakes entry, Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily, has not been nominated for the Rubiton.
Connections are saving the talented Stratum filly for the $750,000 Group 1 Lightning Stakes (1100m) at Flemington Saturday week instead where she will face the likes of unbeaten mare Black Caviar and the hulking Hay List.
Leading the Rubiton Stakes nominees is the Peter Moody-trained Reward For Effort.
Winner of the 2009 Blue Diamond Stakes as a juvenile, classy Exceed And Excel four-year-old Reward For Effort is tipped for an impressive autumn campaign after a smart barrier trial win at Warwick Farm in late January.
Moody has also nominated his improving Anabaa mare Avenue and Fastnet Rock colt Hinchinbrook for Saturday’s Rubiton Stakes showdown.
Other favourites among the early Rubiton Stakes entries include Gold Coast galloper Faster Son who has won six of their seven career starts, David Payne’s One Cool Cat four-year-old Winter King, Mark Kavanagh’s multiple Group race winner Catapulted and speedy Charge Forward filly Solar Charged.
The 2011 Rubiton Stakes 16-starter final field is due to be released on Wednesday February 9 and Races.com.au will be the first to publish the list of acceptors along with their barriers and weights so bookmark us.
It is a bumper weekend of racing, the Rubiton Stakes one of seven Group races on the Caulfield card this Saturday which is headlined by the $400,000 Group 1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m).
