CF Orr Stakes 2011 Nominations

Typhoon Tracy

Defending CF Orr Stakes champion Typhoon Tracy

This Saturday the opening Group 1 showdown of the season will headline the Caulfield race-card and the nominations for the $400,000 Group 1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m) have been released.

The 2011 CF Orr Stakes has attracted 20 early entries including defending champ Typhoon Tracy.

The Peter Moody-trained Red Ransom mare is second up for the season after running third, beaten as the short-priced favourite in the Group 2 Australia Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on January 28.

Her disappointing finish continued Typhoon Tracy’s longest ever losing streak.

The five-year-old has not won on the track since taking out the Group 1 Queen of the Turf Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill in April of last year.

Moody has also nominated improving four-year-old Doubtful Jack who won first-up in the Listed TheTote.Com.Au Stakes (1200m) at Launceston on January 27 and new acquisition, former Macau galloper Luen Yat Forever, for Saturday’s Orr Stakes.

Runner-up to Typhoon Tracy in the 2010 CF Orr, five-year-old Heart Of Dreams is also back this year one of two entries for Mick Price along with Spacecraft.

Other big names among the CF Orr nominees are evergreen veteran Zipping resuming after a career-best spring campaign, Mark Kavanagh’s previous Melbourne Cup winner Shocking, the Bart Cummings-trained Zabeel gelding Precedence and emerging Galileo grey Linton.

Linton is representing prominent racehorse owner Lloyd Williams along with Zipping in the CF Orr Stakes, both gallopers heading towards the $1 million Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington’s Super Saturday of Racing on March 12.

Zipping is equal favourite with Shocking in the early Australian Cup betting paying $6 through Luxbet.

Linton is currently rated a $14 chance in the Australian Cup odds.

One notable defector from the CF Orr is Australia Stakes winner Whitefriars, the Rick Worthington-trained gelding set to miss the showdown due to an elevated temperature.

Whitefriars could still attempt to add Group 1 glory to his name in the $350,000 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) on February 26 at Caulfield’s Blue Diamond Stakes Day.

The 2011 CF Orr Stakes final field of 16 starters will be released on Wednesday February 9 and published here at Races.com.au along with a detailed form guide, betting preview and race tips.
