This Saturday February 19, Flemington Racecourse will host the latest Group 1 race meet of the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival and below are the top Lightning Stakes Day 2011 Betting & Race Tips exclusive to readers of Races.com.au.
Racing at Flemington tomorrow gets underway at 12:50pm (AEDST) and the action is top-class right from the get go with the $100,000 Listed Talindert Stakes (1100m) first-up.
The 2011 Talindert Stakes field features 11 promising two-year-olds including Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude runner-up Anevay who is the current $3.30 favourite to win through Luxbet.
Kicking off the Group races on the Lightning Stakes Day programme is Flemington Race 4 at 2:50pm (AEDST) with a super line-up of three-year-old fillies facing off in the $200,000 Group 3 The Mittys Vanity (1400m).
Peter Moody’s Do Ra Mi is the odds-on favourite at $2 to win The Mittys Vanity but we are tipping an upset with South Australian filly Southern Speed paying a nice $4.40 as the second elect at Luxbet.
Next on the Flemington Saturday line-up is Race 5 the $200,000 Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes (1400m) where the likes of Anacheeva, Dusty Star and favourite Enjin Number Nine will take to the track at 3:30pm (AEDST).
The feature Flemington showdown punters and racing fans will be waiting for, however, is the $750,000 Group 1 Lightning Stakes (1000m) due to run as Race 6 at 4:10pm (AEDST).The 2011 Lightning Stakes is shaping up as a fast-paced face-off between some of the country’s best sprinters including the queen herself, Black Caviar.

Flemington Race 2 Tips – Antler Luggage Handicap (2000m)
- #1 Larry’s Never Late from #9 King Diamond and #13 Kert
Jim Conlan’s honest Cranbourne galloper Larry’s Never Late should be fresh first-up for the season after just one run during the spring when they won the Group 3 Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation Stakes (1500m) at Sandown. Good record when resuming, 2000m should be no issues.
Flemington Race 3 Tips – The Big6 Handicap (1200m)
- #12 Belgietto from #9 I’m Discreet and #6 We’re Gonna Rock – Bet now at Luxbet
Bel Esprit four-year-old Belgietto resumes and had the form last season to suggest an upset at good odds. Solid barrier five draw and nice 53kg lightweight. Has won past four starts, last two of which were over the mile at Flemington. If they don’t win it will be due to a photo-finish result.

Flemington Race 6 Tips – Coolmore Lightning Stakes (1000m)
- #7 Black Caviar from #1 Hay List and #2 Grand Duels – Bet now at Luxbet
Black Caviar is just too good so stick with the odds-on favourite. Hay List will improve and do a better job than when they last met while Flemington track specialist and $41 Luxbet roughie Grand Duels adds some value to the winning Lightning Stakes Trifecta.

Flemington Race 7 Tips – Henry Bucks Best Dressed (1400m)
- #8 Eraset from #2 Rockpecker and #12 Niblick
Eraset one of the favourites in the markets but still good value, Danny O’Brien’s Reset gelding to win first-up here after a solid spring. Enjoyed a good win over 1400m here when resuming last time so history suggests he can do it again.
Flemington Race 8 Tips – Gurner’s Lane Handicap (1700m)
- #15 Studley Park from #11 Red Hustler and #8 Rubinacci
Robert Hickmott’s unbeaten Zabeel four-year-old Studley Park to win on their Saturday race debut. Is odds-on for a reason so stick with.
