Anevay has won the Talindert Stakes at Flemington
A field of promising two-year-olds took to the track for the 2011 Talindert Stakes but it was race favourite and market mover, Anevay shortening in from $2.60 to $2.50 pre-race, who emerged the winner.
Performing well as expected, the daughter of Exceed And Excel backed up beautifully from her close second behind One Last Dance in the Blue Diamond Fillies Preview to stamp her claims in the $1 million Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) next Saturday at Caulfield.
Going to the left a little after jumping from barrier nine, jockey Nicholas Hall and Anevay managed to avoid interference and quickly recover to hit the front.
The Peter Moody-trained Covered In Class settled nicely into second sitting on the inside of the leader while Hollyweird, later dropping right off, also got away well and sat third.
With 400m to go Anevay held a narrow lead over Covered In Class before she displayed a brilliant turn of foot to kick away and put two lengths on the field.
Running away, Anevay eventually finished a good two lengths clear of roughie Cash For Matt who put in an eye-catching run to move up for second while Covered In Class held on for third.
Anevay was just too fast and too good for them today, her natural speed and talent likely to see her shorten in the Blue Diamond odds at Luxbet.
While connections are of course threatened by Sepoy, odds-on favourite for the Blue Diamond, they are still taking their chances and will back up today’s Talindert Stakes winner at Caulfield next Saturday.
Next race on the Flemington card is the $75,000 Antler Luggage Handicap (2000m) at 1:30pm (AEDST) where we are tipping #1 Larry’s Never Late currently paying $4.80 at Luxbet.
