Atomic Late Entry into Blue Diamond Stakes Field 2011

Connections of promising two-year-old Atomic this morning paid the $55,000 late entry paving the way for the Commands colt to contest the $1 million Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

The Lee Freedman-trained Atomic burst into Blue Diamond contention with an impressive black-type victory on debut in the $100,000 Listed Chairman’s Stakes (1000m) at Sandown on February 9.

Originally not nominated for the 2011 Blue Diamond Stakes, after connections paid the late entry Atomic is now assured of a spot in the Blue Diamond field.

The $60,500 first prize for their Chairman’s Stakes victory has them sitting 13th on the Blue Diamond order of entry guaranteeing a start in Victoria’s two-year-olds showpiece as the Blue Diamond has a capacity field of 16 runners.

Leading online bookmaker Luxbet has Atomic on the third line of Blue Diamond Stakes betting paying $11.

Sepoy remains the raging favourite now odds-on at $1.75 while the Peter Moody-trained Hallowell Belle is the $9 second elect in the Blue Diamond odds despite not being assured of a start sitting 20th on the order of entry.

Other horses in the market include last Saturday’s Talindert Stakes winner Anevay ($12), Peter Snowden’s Redoute’s Choice filly Glissade ($14) and Satin Shoes ($14).

Satin Shoes, however, has been confirmed as a non-starter in the Blue Diamond Stakes with connections focusing on the 2011 Golden Slipper Stakes with the exciting filly instead.

The 2011 Patinack Farm Blue Diamond Stakes final field and barrier draw will be released tomorrow and published here first at Races.com.au.
