Golden Slipper 2011 Hopefuls Nominated for Reisling Slipper Trial

The race towards the 2011 Golden Slipper Stakes steps up a notch this Saturday March 19 as a field of two-year-old fillies vie for the ballot exemption into the $3.5 million showdown on offer to the winner of the $300,000 Group 2 Reisling Slipper Trial (1200m) at Rosehill.

The 2011 Reisling Slipper Trial, also known as the Reisling Stakes, is one of six Group race features on the 2011 Coolmore Classic Day programme and just eight fillies make up the nominations for the juvenile Golden Slipper lead-up.

Satin Shoes

Top entry and sure to be favourite in the Reisling Stakes odds at Luxbet is the Clarry Conners-trained Satin Shoes.

Unbeaten Flying Spur filly Satin Shoes firmed into the $7.50 second favourite behind Sepoy in the 2011 Golden Slipper Stakes betting at Luxbet over the weekend after previous second elect Karuta Queen failed to win the Black Opal Stakes at Canberra, subsequently drifting out to $12.

Most recently Satin Shoes staked her claims for the Golden Slipper with a good win in the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on February 26 and will be out to extend her perfect record to four in the Reisling Slipper Trial on Saturday.

The horse that ran second to Satin Shoes is the Silver Slipper Stakes, John O’Shea’s More Than Ready filly Elite Falls, has also been nominated for this year’s Reisling Slipper.

Elite Falls has twice been beaten by Satin Shoes having also run second to her in the Listed Widden Stakes (1100m) at Randwick on February 12 and will be looking to turn the tables this weekend.

Luxbet currently have Elite Falls on the fifth line of their Golden Slipper odds paying $17 to cause an upset.

The Peter Snowden-trained Anise is the next shortest priced entry in the Golden Slipper betting that has been nominated for the Reisling Stakes, sitting at a quote of $35 through Luxbet.

After winning on debut over 1100m at Rosehill back in November last year, the daughter of General Nediym resumed with a first-up second to Foxwedge in The Clarry Conners Plate (1100m) at Warwick Farm on March 5.

Winner of The Clarry Conners Plate and current $9.50 third favourite to win the Golden Slipper 2011 through Luxbet, Foxwedge is one of nine nominees for the $300,000 Group 2 Todman Slipper Trial (1200m) on Saturday, the colts and geldings equivalent of the Reisling Stakes that also offers a Golden Slipper ballot exemption to the winner.

The other Reisling Slipper Trial early entries are the Gai Waterhouse-trained Cape City Flyer having just their second career start, Chris Waller’s duo Fast And Sexy and Mossmoney, the David Hayes-trained Fortune Of War and Defiant Dame.

David Payne’s Defiant Dame is the only one of these runners in the Golden Slipper markets, currently paying $51 through Luxbet, the Gimcrack Stakes winner and Wyong Magic Millions third placegetter having resumed with a first-up sixth in the Group 3 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) at Warwick Farm last Saturday.

The 2011 Reisling Slipper Trial final field and barrier draw as well as the acceptors for all the other Coolmore Classic Day features will be out tomorrow and published here at Races.com.au.
