The headline event at Rosehill this Saturday March 26 is the $500,000 Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) where a top-class field of three-year-olds will face off, a number of which are heading towards next month’s 2011 AJC Australian Derby.
The 2011 Rosehill Guineas has attracted a final field of 14 runners.
In the Rosehill Guineas barrier draw, Peter Moody’s Caulfield Guineas winner Anacheeva has come up trumps with the inside running from gate one.
Due to be ridden by Glyn Schofield, Anabaa colt Anacheeva has been disappointing in their three starts this prep most recently finishing three lengths away sixth in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on March 5.
However, with the ideal draw and stepping up to 2000m, Anacheeva should be much improved this weekend.
Upset Australian Guineas winner Shamrocker has also been accepted into this year’s Rosehill Guineas field, Danny O’Brien’s in-form daughter of O’Reilly the only filly in the race.
Shamrocker meets her male rivals two kilos better in the weights on Saturday and is due to jump from barrier eight with Damien Oliver in the mount.
Having run second to Brazilian Pulse in the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) during the spring, Shamrocker resumed with a first up fourth in the Group 3 The Mittys Vanity (1400m) before her 1 ¾ length victory over Bullbars in the Australian Guineas.
One of the sure to be favourites in the 2011 Rosehill Guineas odds is #2 Jimmy Choux, the classy Kiwi colt making their Australian race debut on Saturday.
Jimmy Choux is one of the top fancies to win the $1.5 million Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m) at Randwick on April 9, currently sitting as the equal $7 second favourite at Luxbet.
The consistent son of Thorn Park has scored four consecutive Group wins in New Zealand including his latest success in the Group 1 New Zealand Derby (2400m) on March 5.
Regular rider Jonathan Riddell has travelled to Australia to ride Jimmy Choux in the Rosehill Guineas, the pair set to start from barrier six.
Champion hoop Glen Boss who enjoyed two Group 1 winning rides last Saturday aboard Aloha in the Coolmore Classic and $101 roughie Zavite in the Ranvet Stakes will be aboard Rosehill Guineas hopeful Absolutelyawesome.
The $5 early favourite in the 2011 AJC Derby odds at Luxbet, Michael Moroney’s Zenno Rob Roy gelding Absolutelyawesome is third-up for the season having most recently run fourth to Ilovethiscity in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) at Warwick Farm on March 16.
The step up to 2000m on Saturday and good barrier seven draw brings Absolutelyawesome right into contention to become the Rosehill Guineas winner.
Randwick Guineas third placegetter Light Brigade is also set to back up in the Rosehill equivalent this weekend, the Gai Waterhouse-trained Redoute’s Choice colt drawn well in barrier five and to be ridden by Nash Rawiller.
