The fourth race to take place at this Saturday’s Golden Slipper Day at Rosehill is the $400,000 Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) where 2011 AJC Oaks favourite Brazilian Pulse will start the clear favourite.
The 2011 Vinery Stud Stakes, one of five Group 1 features on the Golden Slipper Day programme, has drawn a final field of 11 three-year-old fillies lead by the Michael Moroney-trained Brazilian Pulse.
Winner of last year’s Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m), Captain Rio filly Brazilian Pulse resumed with a first-up second to Do Ra Mi in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1400m) at Flemington before improving to win the Group 3 Keith F Nolan Classic (1800m) last start at Rosehill.
Brazilian Pulse is now the ante-post favourite at a quote of around $4.60 to win the $550,000 Group 1 AJC Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick on April 16.
For the Vinery Stud Stakes on Saturday Brazilian Pulse will jump from barrier six with Craig Williams continuing his association with the Group 1 winner.
The filly that beat Brazilian Pulse in the Kewney Stakes, the Peter Moody-trained Do Ra Mi has also been accepted for Saturday’s Vinery Stud Stakes.
Drawn ideally in barrier four the daughter of Savabeel looks the main danger to the favourite but is as yet untested over a distance greater than 1400m so the step up to 2000m may be a factor.
Other top 2011 Vinery Stud Stakes runners include:
- Pinker Pinker (Greg Eurell) – In-form Reset filly coming off back-to-back Group wins having taken out the Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on Blue Diamond Stakes Day and then the Group 3 Schweppervescence Trophy (1600m) at Flemington on March 12, suffered a blow with wide barrier 10 draw on Saturday
- Sworn To Secrecy (John O’Shea) – Improving daughter of Keeper coming off a game third beaten less than a length by Blackie in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) on a Slow Rosehill track on March 19, good barrier five draw one inside the favourite and with a bit of rain is a real chance
- Fibrillation (Tim Martin) – Three-year-old grey ran second to Brazilian Pulse in the Keith F Nolan in a career best performance, could Place again but has a wider draw and bigger weight than last-start
The 2011 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) will run as Rosehill Race 4 on Saturday at 1:45pm (AEDST).
