More Joyous has failed to feature in the placings of $2 million Doncaster Mile at Randwick today, finishing 11th despite starting as the short priced favourite.
The four-year-old More Than Ready mare was upstaged by Sacred Choice on the Heavy rated track, who won the race by a convincing two lengths.
Sacred Choice proved that she was a true swimmer as she powered to the lead to win the mile-long race in stunning style.
Trainer Joseph Pride was full of praise for Sacred Choice, who has now added an extra $1.2 million to her current prize earnings of nearly $730,000.
“I was just worried without cover but she settled well,” Pride said.
“When she broke away nothing was going to catch her.
“I’d love to think that I can get the best out of her and this mare has been a phenomenon”
The trainer gave the impression that the Doncaster Mile could possibly be the five-year-old mare’s last race.
“I think she’s probably done all she can do,” Pride said.
“I’d like to finish her on a good note.”
Jockey Tim Clark was overjoyed with Sacred Choice’s gutsy win.
“(I’m) absolutely wrapped to be able to win such a prestigious race,” he said.
“This is definitely the best race I’ve won.
“She was the fresh horse on the scene and she showed that”
