After their solid performance third-up at Rosehill Gardens over the weekend the Paul Messara-trained Rekindled Alliance has been nominated for what could be their second Group 1 career run in the Rosehill Guineas 2012 this Saturday.

The Redoute’s Choice colt showed nice improvement from their two opening runs, a fourth to Hot Snitzel in the Group 2 Royal Sovereign Stakes (1200m) and then a sixth to Wild And Proud in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m), when on Saturday then came within a neck when second to Colorado Clair in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes (1500m).
Connections are now in conversation as to whether Rekindled Alliance should back up just seven days later and take on the likes of New Zealand Derby winner Silent Achiever, reigning Victorian Derby champ Sangster and the in-form Laser Hawk in the $500,000 Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) on Saturday.
“He was three weeks between runs because of the wet weather, so we were very happy with his run on the weekend,” Arrowfield Stud’s manager John Messara said.
“We will see how he pulls up but he will be nominated for the Rosehill Guineas.
“We know he can’t handle wet tracks, so if it rains we will wait a week until the Tulloch Stakes.
“He is on his way to the Derby, so one way or another he have to have a seven-day back-up along the way.”
The $175,000 Group 2 Tulloch Stakes (2000m) runs at Rosehill on Golden Slipper Day, April 7, while the $1.5 million Group 1 ATC Australian Derby (2400m) will take place at Royal Randwick the following Saturday.
Current Australian Derby odds at bookmaker.com.au are led by fellow Rosehill Guineas chance Silent Achiever ($7) while Rekindled Alliance $17 in the futures.
Rekindled Alliance, a winner of just one of their seven starts to date, has raced at the highest level once before when they finished five and a half lengths away sixth to fellow Rosehill Guineas 2012 nominee Doctor Doom in the Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Randwick last October.
The 2012 Rosehill Guineas final field and barrier draw, revealing whether Rekindled Alliance was or wasn’t accepted, will be out on Wednesday.
