Despite a drawing a disastrous gate for their Australian debut on Saturday, Roger James’ boom Kiwi filly Silent Achiever has still opened favourite in the Rosehill Guineas 2012 odds at bookies around the country.

Drawn out wide in gate 17 (of 20) the daughter of O’Reilly, like last year’s winner Jimmy Choux, will be shooting for consecutive win number five when she races in the $500,000 Group 1 Flinders Lane Rosehill Guineas (1500m).

And like fellow New Zealander Jimmy Choux, who would go on to run second in the Australasian weight-for-age championship Cox Plate, Silent Achiever also comes off a win in the New Zealand Derby.

Over her seven-start career to date she has never jumped wider than barrier 11, and James is hoping that gun Aussie hoop Hugh Bowman can help Silent Achiever overcome her Rosehill Guineas barrier on Saturday to salute for the punters.

“I guess they’ve given me the visitor’s draw,” James said.

“It’s a bit of a bugger because it’s a short run to the first turn, but she gets back anyway, so we’ll see.

“It is something I can’t do a lot about. Hopefully Hughie can.

“It will test whether she’s good enough.”

In the latest Rosehill Guineas betting markets at bookmaker.com.au Silent Achiever pays $4.20.

She is followed closely by the best local hope, Laser Hawk at $5.50.

Drawn far more favourably in barrier nine with Nash Rawiller to ride, Gai Waterhouse’s up-and-coming Artie Schiller gelding won their opening three career starts before they eye-catching third last start to benchmark filly Mosheen in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m).

How Laser Hawk steps up to the 2000-metres on Saturday will be key to their chances both in the Rosehill Guineas and for the upcoming $1.5 million Group 1 ATC Australian Derby (2400m) at Randwick on April 14.

There are just two other hopefuls in the full Rosehill Guineas field and markets currently under double figures with Gary Hennessy’s New Zealand colt Ocean Park ($8 bookmaker.com.au) tipped to improve on their Randwick Guineas eighth on debut down under, and the Anthony Cummings-trained Australian Guineas runner-up Strike The Stars ($9 bookmaker.com.au) who comes off a disappointing seventh in the Randwick Guineas.

Other livewire chances at juicier Rosehill Guineas odds through bookmaker.com.au include Randwick Guineas runner-up Said Com ($10) who suffered a blow drawing the far outside gate, Randwick Guineas fourth placed Ambidexter ($11) who is one of four chances in the race for Peter Snowden, New Zealand Derby runner-up Rock ‘n’ Pop ($15), Bede Murray’s Darci Brahma colt Darci Be Good ($16) and last year’s Victoria Derby winner Sangster ($21) who will relish getting up in distance.

Sangster’s trainer Trent Busuttin believes the favourite will be vulnerable from her double-digit gate on Saturday and knows his horse will be poised from barrier seven ready to run home strong.

“You can’t beat barrier draws, especially at this level when there’s not much between the field,” he said.
