Gai Waterhouse-trained filly Hallowell Belle has taken out the $100,000 2012 Darby Munro Stakes (1200m) ahead of Altar and Ever The Same at Rosehill Gardens today.
The three-year-old continued her good start to 2012 which includes consecutive third placings in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes and Surround Stakes.
With regular Waterhouse jockey Tommy Berry in the saddle, she produced an excellent run from the widest barrier in the field to take top honours in today’s Listed event.
Hallowell Belle was the early favourite at bookmaker.com.au when markets opened this week but was left alone by the punters following the barrier draw.
She eventually started the race at $7.00 with Newmarket runner African Pulse the eventual race favourite.
African Pulse was unable to produce the goods despite dropping back in quality after finishing mid-field in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate and Newmarket Handicap.
First lady of racing Gai Waterhouse said after the race she would enjoy the night before deciding where to next for Hallowell Belle tomorrow.
The Starcraft filly now has two wins from 12 starts but has placed on nine other occasions.
The run from Hallowell Belle continues a stellar day of racing that saw Ichihara win the Magic Night Stakes in the first of the day before Black Caviar half brother All Too Hard cruised home to win the Pago Pago Stakes.
Up next at Rosehill is the Challenge Stakes that will see Rain Affair return to Sydney to take on Bel Sprinter who will be making his debut in the harbour city.
Later in the day is the feature Group 1 Rosehill Guineas event that will see New Zealand star Silent Achiever in his first run on Australian soil.
With so much racing left to come at Rosehill today, be sure to head to bookmaker.com.au to give yourself access to the best odds.
Home of the $300 b0nus bet, the Australian owned bookie has all the products to suit your racing needs.
