Schweppervescence Stakes 2012 – Final Field Headed by Empress Rock

Bart Cummings-trained horse Empress Rock will be out to continue her excellent run of form when she lines up in the 2012 Schweppervescence Stakes (1800m) at Morphetville this Saturday.

The Fastnet Rock filly is chasing a third straight victory after winning the Group 2 Kewney Stakes on March 10 and then the fillies Classic at Moonee Valley on March 23.

Her record now stands at three wins from six starts and she has collected over $340,000 in prize money.

Otherwise known as the Auraria Stakes, the Group 3 Schweppervescence Stakes is restricted to three-year-old fillies and is one of two feature races in Adelaide this weekend.

The most likely challenger to Empress Rock in the $115,000 event is Bliss Street who ran third to Empress Rock in the Kewney Stakes.

Trained by Daniel Morton, she should appreciate a drop down in class after finishing tenth in the Coolmore Classic on March 24.

Bliss Street is a winner of four races from 16 starts, with the major highlight coming in the Group 3 1000 Guineas prelude in September last year.

Leading trainer Peter Moody has one horse named in the final field with Torah set to run from barrier seven.

To take top honours this weekend she will have to turn around her 2012 form with her best results sixth-place finishes in the Typhoon Tracy Stakes and the Fillies Classic at Moonee Valley.

Leading Adelaide trainer Mark Kavanagh has three horses entered in the race, with the most successful being Rock Culture who will be out to score a third consecutive victory.

Another daughter of Fastnet Rock, she definitely has the form on the board but faces a step up in class this weekend when she competes at Group level for the first time.

Also in form and stepping up in class this weekend is Just Discreet who won two races in a row before finishing second in a 1600 metre handicap at Morphetville on March 31.

A full allottment of 16 horses plus three emergencies were today named in the final field for the Schweppervescence Stakes which will jump as the seventh race on an eight-race card at Adelaide this weekend.
