Last season’s top New Zealand riding apprentice Jason Collett is looking to continue a successful association with Chris Waller’s progressive mare She’s Clean when he partners with the in-form four-year-old in Saturday’s 2013 Tattersall’s Tiara.
The country’s leading Group 1 winning trainer for the season Waller is likely to saddle up two mares in the $400,000 Group 1 Sky Racing Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm this weekend.
His duo after the final elite level of the current season, which would take their trainer’s Group 1 tally to nine, are last start Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) winner Red Tracer and Redoute’s Choice mare She’s Clean.
A winner of eight of her 16 starts to date She’s Clean has had just two stakes starts to date having won the Listed Triscay Stakes (1200m) in the mud at Warwick Farm in February where she beat subsequent Coolmore Classic – Queen Of The Turf Group 1 double winner Appearance by a short half head, and then the Listed June Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on June 8.
The June Stakes success was her second at the track and was also the second time Collett partnered with her.
He retains the ride when Waller steps She’s Clean up massively in class this weekend with the mare to start in her maiden Group race chasing the Tattersall’s Tiara crown after avoiding a riding suspension from a run at Rosehill over the weekend.
While it is a notable rise through the ranks Collett remains confident his mount can be competitive and give her more established rivals a run for their money in the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival classic including their better fancied stablemate Red Tracer, second to the Guy Walter-trained Appearance in both the recent Sydney Group 1’s, who will be ridden by Nash Rawiller.
“They are two similar fillies,” Collett said of Red Tracer and She’s Clean.
“They both just try so hard and I’m looking forward to the Group One.”
The boom young jockey will also partner with Waller’s Pins six-year-old Thumbtacks in another Tattersall’s Tiara Day feature, the $100,000 Listed Tattersall’s Mile (1600m).
The 2013 Tattersall’s Tiara nominations are due to be released shortly and will be published right here at Races.com.au so stay tuned.
