All the early entries for Saturday’s Tattersall’s Tiara Day races at Eagle Farm are now out including those for the staying feature on the card, the 2013 Tattersall’s Cup.
There are 16 nominees for this year’s edition of the $200,000 Group 3 Carlton Draught Tattersall’s Cup (2200m) with some classy types in line for the handicap clash.
The top-rated of the Tattersall’s Tiara nomination is the Peter Moody-trained European Group 1 winner Voila Ici.
Yet to break their maiden status down under the rising nine-year-old Daylami stallion caught the eye at Eagle Farm two back when beaten under a length into third by Quintessential in the Group 2 Eagle Farm Cup (2200m).
They backed up over the weekend but could only manage to finish fifth from barrier 16 of 16 carrying the 60kg topweight in the Listed Ipswich Cup (2150m).
Still that was a brave effort with things working against them and they run again on Saturday getting back to the 2200m at Eagle Farm where they could be hard to hold out if they get in with a decent weight and gate.
Moody has also nominated for fellow import Ibicenco who will be third-up for their new trainer having previously been prepared by Luca Cumani overseas.
Winner of the Listed Sandown Cup (3200m) last spring, Ibicenco was last seen running ninth to Tokamak in the Listed Strawberry Road Handicap (1600m) at Eagle Farm on June 8 but is tipped to improve as they get up to a more suitable distance this weekend.
One in-form galloper looking to continue their winning ways in the Tattersall’s Cup meanwhile is the Darren Weir-trained mare Lake Sententia who comes off back-to-back wins firstly at Morphettville and then Moonee Valley on June 13, the four-year-old to step up in class here.
Other notable hopes then include Lloyd Kennewell’s former Adelaide Cup winner Rialya coming off an eighth in the Ipswich Cup, Leon Corstens’ former Group 1 SA Derby winner Zabeelionaire and the Brian Smith-trained duo of local veteran Raeburn and last start Brisbane Cup fifth placed Rothera.
Also with multiple entries is John Thompson who celebrated the Tattersall’s Tiara win with Pear Tart on this day 12 months ago and who has nominated Saint Encosta and Shamardashing, sixth in the Brisbane Cup, for the Tattersall’s Cup.
