The Run To The Rose 2013 Tips & Selections

The main event at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday is the Group 3 The Run To The Rose (1200m) – a race that is set to have a massive impact on the 2013 Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) betting market with a number of the leading contenders set to clash this weekend.

The 2013 edition of The Run To The Rose, a race that was won by Pierro in 2012, will be run as race six at Rosehill on Saturday with the exciting group of three-year-olds expected to jump from the gates at 3.50pm.

In a very competitive betting market, Golden Slipper runner-up Sidestep is a narrow favourite and is currently available at odds of $4 with leading Darley jockey Kerrin McEvoy on board.

Sidestep resumed with a luckless fourth behind Va Pensiero in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) and has been well backed to record just his second career victory on Saturday.

Chris Waller-trained Zoustar ($4.80) is on the second line of betting, despite having not been seen at the races since the 2013 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, while Gosford-based Napayshini ($8) rocketed into contention for the race with a dominant five and a half lengths victory at Gosford a fortnight ago.

David Vandyke-trained Ike’s Legacy ($8) and the undefeated Eurozone ($8.50) are the only other horses in the field that are available at single figure odds.

1st

#5 Eurozone ($8.50)

Team Cummings-trained Eurozone may be the best value bet on the entire card at Rosehill on Saturday. The son of Northern Meteor has been flawless in his three trips to the races thus far and has improved every time that he has been asked to step up in class. Co-trainer James Cummings believes he still hasn’t gotten to the bottom of the exciting colt and considers him a genuine Golden Rose contender. At each-way odds Eurozone is the best bet of the day.

2nd

#1 Sidestep ($4)

Sidestep was desperately unlucky in the San Domenico Stakes but will face a much tougher field in this race. The Exceed And Excel colt has been a consistent performer during his brief racing career but hasn’t made a habit out of winning. Although the $4 is unders for the win, he should be included in all exotic bets.

3rd

#13 Ike’s Legacy ($8)

Trainer David Vandyke has been brimming with praise for Ike’s Legacy and he is one trainer that it is worth paying attention to. This is a significant rise in class for the Redoute’s Choice colt but Vandyke would not have him in the race if he didn’t think the three-year-old was capable of winning.
