No, Mark Kavanagh’s star mare hasn’t suffered another career setback ruling her out of her second-up run on Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes Day this Saturday! Instead the 2013 Stocks Stakes Field without Atlantic Jewel is an excellent special betting market available for the weekend through Ladbrokes.com.au.
Triple Group 1 champion Atlantic Jewel, first-up winner of the Memsie Stakes at Caulfield two weeks ago in her first run in over 70 weeks, is dominating betting for her next assignment.
Having been set for the easier of the two 1600m, Group 2 weight-for-age features at Moonee Valley Racecourse on the weekend, the Fastnet Rock five-year-old will take on a field of fellow mares in the $220,000 Group 2 Stocks Stakes (1600m).
And the list of reasons why she’s the $1.07 odds-on favourite in Stocks Stakes betting is long:
- She has three Group 1 trophies
- Came back from injury with a 2.5 length Memsie Stakes win (her third Group 1) last start
- Beat the boys then including Ferlax (2nd) and her Australian Cup winning stablemate Super Cool (3rd)
- Faces just seven other mares here
- Has gate two
- Michael Rodd continues his association
- Weight-for-age suits
- Is the 2013 Cox Plate favourite
- Winner at the track
- Undefeated to date
And they’re just a few.
That’s why our preferred online sportsbook Ladbrokes.com.au are offering Stocks Stakes odds with Atlantic Jewel removed from the equation so you can back the next best with more confidence at good prices.
Below is the Stocks Stakes 2013 field without Atlantic Jewel and the subsequent prices being offered by the country’s most exciting bookie.
Oasis Bloom ($3.60) – Won this last year after two failed first-up runs, comes via the same two races here and finished in nearly the exact position in both as 12 months ago meaning she should win this third-up if going by the history books
Fibrillation ($4.40) – New trainer Mick Price singing her praises, second to fellow Stocks hope Bec Said No Credit at Caulfield for him two weeks back and she’ll be fitter for that, going on six but could be going through a rejuvenation and Moonee Valley’s tight circuits will work in her favour
Ava’s Delight ($4.80) – Good barrier four draw with Luke Nolen to ride, prepared by Darren Weir this mare is very consistent but doesn’t seem to know how to win! Favourite at Caulfield two weeks ago when third behind Bec Said No Credit, expect improvement but probably outside the top three for mine
Bec Said No Credit ($5.50) – Getting plenty of mentions having beaten a number of these at Caulfield recently, really deserves this shot in a Group race for a black type win, has won three on the trot and Weir knows how to keep that sort of form going with his runners so don’t expect the magic to wane off as she goes up in class at the Valley here
Oriental Ruby ($7.50) – Cockram Stakes runner-up as a $25 outsider first-up in a massive effort when coming from near last to cross just under a length off the winner Octavia, didn’t really back-up or produce something similar in the open mares race she ran in a fortnight ago and so the punters have lost interest, Valley suits but will the distance?
Keyarna Blue ($9) – Prepared by Pat Hyland has only had the six starts, two of which she won at Kilmore and then a black type at Morphettville during the autumn over the mile, last start at Cranbourne earlier this month wasn’t great when ninth to Desert Wizard, might not be ready just yet
Bonne Nuit ($18) – Rank outsider here, Barry Fox’s five-year-old won at Moonee Valley over the 1600m as a $31 outsider over Love For Ransom at the start of August and backed up with another victory this time over 2000m at Flemington, think drop back to mile after another 2000m Flemington start last Saturday will work against
*Odds are Fixed Win and in Ladbrokes.com.au Stocks Stakes (Field without Atlantic Jewel) markets only
