Order Of The Sun in Peak Condition Ahead of South Australian Derby

Jockey Chad Schofield is confident talented colt Order Of The Sun will secure back-to-back victories and a maiden victory at the highest level of Australian racing when lining up for the 2014 South Australian Derby (2500m) at Morphettville this weekend.

Partnering the classy three-year-old to victory in the Listed VRC St Leger (2800m) at Flemington last weekend, Schofield told The Advertiser he could not be happier with the form shown by Order Of The Sun and although unable to take the ride, is excited by the team’s chances in South Australian this weekend.

“He was very strong to the line and he wouldn’t have blown a candle out after the race” Schofield said.

“He was very well prepared for that distance and he’ll be very hard to beat in the Derby.

“I think he does have enough brilliance to match it with the strong three-year-olds.”

Amassing an impressive record of four wins and one place from only nine competitive starts to date, Order Of The Sun completed a consistent maiden preparation over the spring of 2013, claiming back-to-back victories on debut and working towards a hard-fought run for sixth amongst classy company in the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes (1800m) on September 28th.

Returning to the track in similarly impressive form when taking out the Klink Maiden (1600m) with ease first-up, the Encosta De Lago colt has steadily built to the task over four proceeding starts; finishing seventh in the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) on March 8th, and while unable to handle the late pace of the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m), sprinted well to finish 8th in the fast-paced Group 2 Nathan Berry Tulloch Stakes (2000m) prior to the St Leger.

Winning the St Leger by more than seven lengths, Order Of The Sun is currently sole occupant of the top line of betting in early markets for success in the 2014 South Australian Derby at a quote of $4.50, ahead of Bring Something ($5), Kushadasi ($6.50) and Gravitational ($9).
