The major support race on the South Australian Derby Day line-up in Adelaide this weekend is the 2014 Euclase Stakes featuring a diminutive line-up after a number of notable nominees failed to accept.
Running as Morphettville Race 6 at 2:24pm (local) this year’s $250,000 Group 2 Sportingbet Euclase Stakes (1200m) has attracted just nine final acceptors.
The most notable non-acceptor for the Euclase Stakes field was the Robert Smerdon-trained Politeness.
Last start winner of the Group 3 PJ Bell Stakes in Sydney, the Street Sense filly was scratched from last weekend’s racing due to mucus in her airways and now set for the paddock after failing to pull up well enough for a final run here.
Group 1 winning Not A Single Doubt filly Miracles Of Life meanwhile will line-up in the Euclase, Daniel Clarken’s 2013 Blue Diamond champ having missed the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes here last weekend due to a bout of colic.
Set for retirement shortly, Clarken was hoping to get one more run out of the local Not A Single Doubt filly in either this or the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) on May 10 during the Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival.
She’s been accepted for Saturday though, set to jump from gate five with Dean Yendall in the saddle, Miracles Of Life last seen finishing second to Minaj in the Listed Redelva Stakes (1050m) here on April 12.
The next best rated runner after Miracles Of Life is then another top local hope, the Phillip Stokes-trained Éclair Big Bang.
Jumping from the outside barrier with Dom Tourneur in the saddle the Savabeel gelding also ran in the Redelva last time out finishing a credible fourth first-up after a 3 and a half month spell.
Winner of the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) before finishing dead last in the Group 1 follow up last season, Éclair Big Bang also ran eighth in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) in Melbourne during the spring and so will appreciate an easier assignment here.
Stokes has also accepted for the consistent Magnus three-year-old Lucky Symbol who is yet to finish out of the money in their six career starts that have netted a quartet of wins.
Lucky Symbol is also a Redelva graduate having run one better than their stable mate to finish in the money with their third place effort.
The only last winner in the field meanwhile is the Robbie Griffiths-trained Street Boss gelding The Quarterback.
Eleventh to Criterion in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at the start of March after two Group 3 thirds in Melbourne, the progressive galloper took out a 1200m handicap at Caulfield on April 19 and is now looking for Black-Type success here.
Other notable raiders include the David Hayes-trained Fast ‘N’ Rocking and Mick Price’s lightly-raced Fastnet Rock filly Jazz Song who won the Group 3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley back in February.
Rounding out the Euclase Stakes field are then the also credible chances Classy Jack who won at the track two back, Port Adelaide Guineas failure (10th) Meadows Angel and Tennesee Groom.
