Scheduled to run at 2:57pm (AEST) as Flemington Race 6 this year’s $120,000 Listed The Straight Six (1200m) features a final field of 17 hopefuls.

Leading the field and weights with 60kg is the Ken Sweeney-trained Riziz who is second-up for the season.

Drawn well in barrier seven with Chris Symons to ride, the Adelaide raider comes via a Group 1 run back home having finished a brave third behind 40-1 roughie Smokin’ Joey in The Goodwood (1200m) from May 10.

Before that they enjoyed back-to-back March wins at the track including the Listed Matrice Stakes (1200m).

Riziz also has nice form in Melbourne having won the Listed All Victorian Sprint Series Final (1200m) here last June before a brave fifth to Broken in the Group 3 Aurie’s Star (1200m).

It’s a big weight for the Zariz gelding however as they go up from 55.5kg in The Goodwood, and they give plenty of weight away to some quality rivals.

The next heaviest weighted hopes are then the Peter Moody-trained Ready To Rip (59.5kg), Blackie (59kg) for Darren Weir and the David Hayes-trained Pago Rock (59kg).

More Than Ready six-year-old Ready To Rip is also drawn wide in gate 15 for the weekend, the consistent sprinter also coming via the Goodwood where they ran three and a half lengths off the winner in fifth.

Blackie meanwhile comes off a run in the mud at Warnambool where the son of Black Minnasloushe finished a brave second to Kneeling when carrying 60kg in the Listed Wangoom Handicap (1200m) first-up.

Pago Rock meanwhile needs to greatly improve on their last start when outclassed in The Goodwood running a disappointing and distant 14th on the back of an 1100m win at Caulfield.

Along with Blackie Weir has also accepted for Lonhspresso out in barrier 16, the widely-drawn Lonhro mare coming off a nice fourth at Flemington from May 10.

The only last start winner in this year’s The Straight Six field meanwhile is the Mick Price-trained General Peekay who won the race Lonhspresso finished fourth in three weeks ago – the All Victorian Sprint Series Heat 2 (1100m).

They had barrier two and 54kg with Glen Boss riding that day and are in the mix again this weekend from barrier six with Craig Newitt booked for the ride.

Price has two other runners in The Straight Six field too with Choisir six-year-old Le Bonsir out in the extreme outside barrier (17) and Eximius in barrier eight for their first-up run.

In the rails draw meanwhile is another Adelaide visitor, the Richard Jolly-trained Karacatis who won the Group 3 DC McKay Stakes (1100m) over fellow Straight Six hopeful Essay Raider before their Goodwood sixth.
