Gollan Expecting Strong Oaks Performance from Tornado Miss

While featuring as a rank outsider for success at Eagle Farm this weekend, trainer Tony Gollan has revealed he is confident Tornado Miss can cause a huge boilover and win the featured Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) after the filly produced a strong piece of work last week.

Finishing third behind leading Oaks chances Arabian Gold and Tinto in the Group 2 The Roses (2000m) last time out, Gollan told AAP he could not be happier with the form displayed by the Snitzel filly in recent weeks, and is hopeful of another clear run in this weekend’s sole Group 1.

“I know they were saying the track was leader biased when she was third in The Roses” Gollan said.

“But she was forced to go hard the whole way and stick on for third was a great effort.

“I was really pleased with her work on Tuesday morning and she has licked out the feed bin since.”

Saddling leading sprinter Spirit Of Boom to an impressive victory in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) last weekend, Gollan said he is thrilled with the performances produced by his entire stable throughout the 2014 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, but is hopeful of continued success over remaining events.

“It’s been a good winter and naturally I hope it continues” Gollan added.

“But it is all the better if you can get a big win no-one expects and Tornado Miss might just do that.”

Claiming three wins and as many places from just 15 competitive race starts to date, Tornado Miss has steadily built to the task over her current preparation; overcoming disappointing performances through March and April with a strong run for fourth amongst classy company in the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m) prior to The Roses.

Allocated the ideal barrier 2, Tornado Miss is currently offered little chance of success in betting markets for the 2014 Queensland Oaks; available at particularly generous odds of $31 for a victory, or $8 to run a place.

Arabian Gold has opened as and maintained clear favouritism to claim a maiden victory at the highest level of Australian racing this weekend, currently offered at $2.50 odds ahead of Tinto ($7.50), Khutulun ($8) and Rock Diva ($11).
