Cosmic Endeavour Wins 2014 Tattersall’s Tiara

In-form sprinter Cosmic Endeavour has produced an exceptional sprint in the final straight of Brisbane’s Eagle Farm Racecourse this afternoon to break through for a maiden victory at the highest level of Australian racing in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m).

Jumping from the gates well, the Northern Meteor filly settled in prime position on the heels of early leaders Jazz Song, Steps In Time and Platinum Rocker, who set a reasonable tempo over the back straight before steadily building in pace rounding the bend.

Finding the final straight in great position, Cosmic Endeavour slowly began to spool up, reaching and comfortably overtaking Steps In Time before maintaining a strong sprint to the line to finish a short nose in the clear of a fast-finishing Angel Of Mercy; Avoid Lightning also running on to finish a close third.

A representative of trainer Gai Waterhouse’s stables said jockey Tommy Berry’s return to partner Cosmic Endeavour in the Tattersall’s Tiara made all the difference in this afternoon’s success.

“It’s good to have him back; he produces the results in the big races.”

“She’s a very tough filly, very strong, very progressive and it’s sort of hard to describe her, she just keeps on improving.”

Tommy Berry returned from Hong Kong to partner Cosmic Endeavour in the 2014 Tattersall’s Tiara and delivered another top-class ride, continuing an impressive partnership with Waterhouse in major races through 2014.

“I’m riding as good as I ever have at the moment, I’m feeling great,” Berry said immediately after the triumph.

“I’m not going to say I shouldn’t get paid, but probably not as much because she travelled so sweet during the run.

“Whatever I wanted to do on her – there was a tight gap at the top of the straight she sprinted through, gave one barge out of the way and still has the audacity to pick up and win.

“She’s been up in the autumn and up in the winter and she just keeps coming out and producing.

“The track wasn’t overly great today but it’s had a lot of racing.”

Cosmic Endeavour is now likely to return to the spelling paddock ahead of a busy 2014 Spring Racing Carnival.
