Local two-year-old Fixation has displayed a keen turn of foot to comfortably win the Listed Breakfast Creek Hotel Stakes (1400m) at Brisbane’s Eagle Farm Racecourse this afternoon, ahead of Homehill and Jumbo Prince.
Jumping from the gates only fairly, the Jet Spur gelding settled well within the pack, allowing early leaders Bayrock and Elitist to set a noticeably quick tempo over the back straight and rounding the bend.
Finding the final straight still well and truly out of contention, Fixation quickly spooled up and found a clear racing line through the middle of the pack, hitting the lead to finish comfortably in the green.
Trainer Tony Gollan has recorded an impressive run of results in events throughout the 2014 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, and was understandably pleased with the performance from his exciting up-and-coming two-year-old in the 2014 Breakfast Creek Hotel Stakes.
“He ran third in an Ipswich maiden and it didn’t look great form going towards a 1400 metre Listed race, but had good faith in this horse from Day 1, we’ve given him plenty of time and he got the job done today,” Gollan said after the race.
“We rode him probably too far forward the other day and he got caught three wide in a tricky position.
“Today we were adamant just to go back, put him to sleep and let him finish off – he’s got a big finish and he’s a very promising horse.”
Jockey Ryan Wiggins delivered a perfectly timed ride on Fixation in the Breakfast Creek Hotel Stakes, and was quick to praise the performance of the gelding immediately after the victory.
“For what this horse has done this prep, he hasn’t even won a maiden,” Wiggins said.
“We just rode him back today because his first ever run at Ipswich when he ran a maiden he came from last and ran a good race, so we thought we’d ride him the same way today and whatever happens happens.
“We got a good split halfway down the straight and he was too good for them.”
While yet to confirm the next step for Fixation this time in, Gollan revealed a return to the paddock or appearance in a minor event over 1500 metres at Eagle Farm in two weeks will be decided upon this week.
