While returning to racing in scintillating form this time in, trainer Ken Keys has conceded Rich Enuff may not be capable of success in Saturday’s Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington Racecourse.
Yet to finish outside the places in a five start career highlighted by three impressive victories and a close run for second in the featured Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) last time out, Rich Enuff has steadily progressed in distance over his four appearances on course this time in; something which may figure as a detriment to the three-year-old’s Coolmore Stud Stakes chances.
Allocated barrier 10 for the 1200m sprint down the famous Flemington straight, Keys revealed he has been thrilled with the form and class displayed by the Written Tycoon colt since the Caulfield Guineas and confirmed Michael Rodd will again take the ride in the Coolmore Stud Stakes.
“He obviously peaked for the Guineas so we don’t know the ramifications of that but we’ve tried to freshen him up and he seems as bright as a button so hopefully he brings his A-game,” Keys told Racing Victoria.
“We’re coming back to 1200 and trying to run in a grand final twice so if he can do it he’s a superstar.
“Heading into the Guineas I was very happy with him and I’m just as happy with him heading into Saturday.
“He’s a complete professional racehorse so it makes my job really easy.”
Confirming Rich Enuff will return to the paddock regardless of results in the Coolmore, Keys said he is yet to settle on a major target for his stable’s star through the 2015 Autumn Carnival.
“We won’t decide anything straight away, there’s new owners in the horse and they’ll have thoughts on what’s the best path to enhance his value,” Keys added.
“It’s a new world for me so I’ve got to look at the calendar a bit differently to how I’ve ever looked at it before so that’s a discussion for after the event.”
Running third in the Friends Of Epworth Handicap (1000m) on debut on March 29th, Keys’ decision to skip the autumn and winter carnivals with Rich Enuff immediately paid dividends upon resuming in the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, as the colt out of Hotnuff won each of the Listed McKenzie Stakes (1200m), Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) and Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) in the lead-up to the Guineas.
A proven performer over track and distances, Rich Enuff is currently outright $3.20 favourite for success in Coolmore Stud Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au.
