Ryan Pair Begin 2015 Magic Millions Guineas Path

Tetsuko and Brazen Moss’s performances at Canterbury on Wednesday will mean more than just a potential win on the day; trainer Gerald Ryan will use their respective midweek races to gauge whether the pair is in the right condition to travel to the Gold Coast next month for the 2015 Magic Millions.

Magic Millions Guineas contender Tetsuko beat 1000 Guineas winner Amicus (pictured) back in February, which boosts her form ahead of the $1 million race.

Ryan is looking at a run in the $1 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) on January 10th for the two horses.

Both horses were rested during the spring and are making their return on Wednesday – Tetsuko in the 1200m fillies and mares event and Brazen Moss in a 1200m maiden.

Brazen Moss is a perpetual runner-up, having finished second in five of his six career starts. The horse is still looking for his first win and Ryan is hopeful that his recent gelding will help him.

“Brazen Moss has been gelded and I’m hoping that will help him,” Ryan told Sky Racing.

“He has run five seconds in town so he gets too much weight against his own age and needs to run against the older horses.

“He’s a three-quarter brother to Buffering and I’m told he was a handful as a young horse and needed gelding.

“Hopefully it has the same effect on Brazen Moss.”

Buffering went on to win four Group One races and bring home more than $4.8 million in prize money following his gelding, a fact that is not lost on Ryan.

Tetsuko on the other hand has found one win and two placings from her four career starts. She beat subsequent Group 1 1000 Guineas (1600m) winner Amicus home in her maiden win back in February which is good for her form line.

“She looks a lot better this time around. She has grown and is a big strong filly,” Ryan said.

“If she does well at Canterbury then we will look at the Magic Millions race at Wyong and then the Guineas at the Gold Coast if she looks like she can run 1400 metres.

“That’s also the plan for Brazen Moss.”

The $100,000 Magic Millions Wyong 3YO Stakes (1200m) on December 18 is the perfect lead-up race for horses looking to travel up north three weeks later.
