2015 Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude Nominations Feature Fontiton

The top two juveniles in the Blue Diamond Stakes odds will battle for top spot in the markets for the Group 1 this weekend at Caulfield with Fontiton and Secret Agenda both nominated for the Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude 2015.

One of the top support races on the CF Orr Stakes Day card on Saturday, this year’s $200,000 Blue Diamond Prelude (Fillies) (1100m) attracted 18 two-year-olds at nomination stage.

Included in the Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude nominations are the top two in the futures markets at Ladbrokes.com.au for the $1 million Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) held back at Caulfield on February 28.

Robert Smerdon’s undefeated daughter of Turffontein Fontiton is narrow favourite at $4.40 ahead of Mick Price’s Not A Single Doubt filly Secret Agenda ($4.60) who is also yet to taste defeat.

Fontiton debuted at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate Day last October with a big six length win in the Inglis Banner to catapult her into the headlines.

She returned from a spell on January 26 at Sandown then and cemented her Blue Diamond bid with a narrower victory in the Blue Diamond Fillies Preview.

Last Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival smart filly Earthquake scored a three length win in the Blue Diamond Prelude before backing up a fortnight later to beat home the boys in the Blue Diamond Stakes, a double Fontiton will shoot for in 2015 starting on Saturday.

Secret Agenda meanwhile has had just the one start back on December 12 when she won on debut defeating Haybah by a comprehensive three and a half lengths over 1000m at Moonee Valley.

She’s been tracking well leading up to her second start and will be out to steal Blue Diamond favouritism with her maiden black type victory here.

Occupying the third line of the all-in Blue Diamond odds at $9 is then Heatherly, another exciting filly running in Saturday’s Prelude.

Earthquake (2014) was the last filly to complete the Prelude – Blue Diamond double last autumn

The daughter of Lonhro debuted at Moonee Valley on February 6 with a one and three-quarter length win in a no-maiden-wins race against her own kind that she’ll be looking to repeat in tougher company on the weekend.

The Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude really is shaping up as the who’s who of the bookies’ picks for the Grand Final at the end of the month with the first five in Blue Diamond Stakes betting all nominated.

Behind the top three single figure chances are then Flamboyant Lass and Lake Geneva both paying $11.

Stratum filly Flamboyant Lass is prepared by five-time Golden Slipper winning trainer Gai Waterhouse and comes off a first-up win over 1000m at Randwick on January 10, the Prelude her first start outside of Sydney.

Waterhouse may boast a dominant Golden Slipper record but a Blue Diamond win in Melbourne has so far eluded her.

Lake Geneva is also a Sydney raider from the Hawkes Racing stables, the Fastnet Rock filly coming off a close second on debut behind Fireworks in the Group 3 Widden Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on January 31.

Other notable Blue Diamond Prelude (Fillies) nominations include the John O’Shea-trained duo of Blue Diamond Preview third placegetter Pursuits and Group 3 winner from the spring Antelucan both representing Godolphin.

See below for the full Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude 2015 nominations and ballot, the final field and barriers out on Wednesday.

Before the weekend head to Ladbrokes.com.au and lock in your early Blue Diamond picks before odds firm following the two Prelude results!
