Pasadena Girl Causes Upset in Talindert Stakes

Exciting two-year-old filly Pasadena Girl has stamped her claims as one to watch at Flemington this afternoon; displaying an exceptional turn of foot late to take out the Listed Talindert Stakes (1100m) on debut.

Jumping from the gates well, jockey Vlad Duric settled the daughter of Savabeel off the pace of the race’s early leaders; Ragazzo Del Corsa, Take Pride and Peppermint Grey, who set a reasonable tempo away from the barriers.

Steadily building in momentum upon reaching 400m from home, Duric pushed Pasadena Girl towards the rail and locked in a fierce pace battle with Miss Finland filly Stay With Me; poking half a length clear upon hitting the line with Take Pride boxing on for third.

Trainer Peter Moody was understandably thrilled with Pasadena Girl’s performance in the 2015 Talindert Stakes, revealing he was not at all shocked by her debut success despite jumping clear favourite.

“Last thing I said to Vlad was I thought this was a very good filly,” Moody said.

“She’s done everything above what she should be doing at this point of her career. She’s an immature Savabeel filly but she’s always shown a ton of brilliance at home.

“She broke in well, we didn’t spend a lot of money, we selected her out of the Melbourne Premier sale … It’s just a little feel good story.

“Gut feeling she’ll probably go to the paddock, I really believe she shouldn’t have been here today by pedigree and type, but we’ll see how she pulls up.”

Running fourth in a Randwick barrier trial on October 17th, Moody elected not to enter Pasadena Girl in two-year-old races late in 2014 with a view towards the Autumn Carnival.

Reportedly taking well to her time in the paddock, the filly our of Nina From Pasadena performed equally well in a Cranbourne barrier trial on February 9th, kicking well late to finish just off the pace of Sister Close.

The Ciaron Maher-trained Jameka jumped from the gates clear favourite in betting markets for success in the 2015 Talindert Stakes, but was unable to match the pace of the top three over the late stages.

Having placed second in a Bendigo Maiden (900m) on debut on December 21st, Jameka overcame an early check to finish a credible third in the $250,000 Inglis Premier (1000m) on February 7th, but is now unlikely to progress to next weekend’s Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield after finishing fourth in the Talindert Stakes.
