Randwick Guineas 2015 Odds: Hallowed Crown v Shooting To Win

Just seven three-year-olds remain in contention for the $600,000 Group 1 Girvan Waugh Randwick Guineas (1600m) this Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival after the official withdrawal of the Chris Waller-trained Kermadec who runs in Melbourne’s $500,000 Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) on the weekend instead.

Drawn in barrier one for jockey Hugh Bowman, the James & Bart Cummings-trained Street Sense colt Hallowed Crown currently leads the latest Randwick Guineas betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Winner of the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) last time in, the galloper also won his latest start when the first-up winner of the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) back at Rosehill on February 21.

Now he pays $2.80 to become the second horse in as many years to complete the Hobartville Stakes – Randwick Guineas double after Dissident did it 12 months ago.

Hot on Hallowed Crown’s heels in the Randwick Guineas markets at $3 is then the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) winner from the spring Shooting To Win.

He jumps one outside of Hallowed Crown on the weekend from barrier two with Blake Shinn aboard, the Northern Meteor colt looking to improve on his first-up fourth in the Hobartville Stakes.

Third in the Golden Rose last September, Shooting To Win was under a half-length off the winner first-up this time in and is proven over the mile in elite level company.

There are then two other single figure hopes in the latest Randwick Guineas odds with the John O’Shea-trained Sweynesse ($4) and Scissor Kick ($5.50) for Paul Messara.

Nicely-bred Lonhro colt Sweynesse won a host of Group races during the spring and was Group 1 placed when third in the Spring Champion Stakes over 2000m at Randwick.

He comes into the Randwick Guineas off the back of a close second in the Hobartville Stakes when just a neck off the winner who he faces again here over more distance.

Golden Rose runner-up last year Scissor Kick meanwhile won the Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) first-up before a fifth in the Hobartville.

The only other runner under $20 is then Sworn To Silence at $17.

Rounding out the markets are then Chris Waller’s Victoria Derby winner Preferment ($51) who will be better later in his prep over more distance and $101 roughie Rhodin Drive coming off a 1200m win at Kembla Grange from February 14.
