2015 Queensland Oaks Tips & Selections

The Queensland Oaks 2015 steals the show at Doomben Racecourse this weekend with a gun line-up of fillies facing off in the classic, betting tips and exotic selections for which are detailed below.

A shock early scratching of Gai Waterhouse’s The Roses winner Bohemian Lily saw the markets at Ladbrokes.com.au for this year’s $500,000 Group 1 Treasury Casino & Hotel Queensland Oaks (2200m) undergo a shake-up.

Firming favourite is the heavily supported Winx ($2.90 into $2.40) from the Sydney stables of Chris Waller who was super impressive winning the Sunshine Coast Guineas over the mile last time out.

She has to handle 2400m – 1600m – 2200m and a tight Doomben circuit but if she does that she’ll be hard to defeat, and she’s got the form against tougher company when second in the ATC Oaks back home earlier.

While the Oaks field is at capacity the only two other fillies under $10 to win are the Bjorn Baker-trained Sebrina ($7) who is ready to strike with Glen Boss aboard and Waller’s other runner Ballet Suite ($9) in the outside alley but coming off a win in the Princess Stakes at the track.

So will the first three in betting be the first three over the line in the Queensland Oaks finishing order or is there an upset on the agenda in the weekend’s major from the likes of the nicely-bred Bart & James Cummings-trained Zarzali ($15) who looks spot on for this?

Our 2015 Queensland Oaks Trifecta Tip is #6 Col ‘N’ Lil from #2 Winx and #4 Ballet Suite

1st

#6 Col ‘N’ Lil ($31)

She’s at a blow-out price but roughie shots saluting in the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival Group 1s is nothing new and we think the form around this Ben Currie-trained Bradbury’s Luck filly can stack up. She was second past the post in The Roses last weekend and while there were four lengths separating her and Bohemian Lily, who was at a far shorter $4.40 when scratched from the Oaks rematch, she was brave in defeat. That followed a fourth to Ballet Suite in the Princess Stakes so if she improves again and handles the step up in distance she could surprise. Has form at the track that some of the better fancied in this field don’t with two seconds from three pervious Doomben runs and with the good lead-up form, gun barrier five draw and a jockey who can read the track in Luke Tarrant aboard she’s ticking lots of boxes at juicy odds.

2nd

#2 Winx ($2.40)

All the money is on Waller’s ATC Oaks runner-up and last-to-first Sunshine Coast winner. Yes, she was impressive last time out but how will that form stack up here? She’s raced against tougher company in Sydney but needs to make the step back up from a mile to 2200m. It has been an unusual preparation with Waller trying to get her spot on for an Oaks over 200m shorter than tradition, but he’s a master at what he does. Only real concern then is the notoriously tight Doomben circuit that she sees for the first time here.

3rd

#4 Ballet Suite ($9)

Waller’s other hope in the race is out in the carpark but still with claims for a top three run after her Princess Stakes effort at Doomben put a race at the track on the board for her. Kerrin McEvoy rides the High Chaparral filly who is a multiple Group 1 performer and beat subsequent The Roses champ Bohemian Lily home in black type class last start. She’s got winning form up to 2000m b
