2015 Caulfield Guineas-bound Ready For Victory is the early favourite in Danehill Stakes betting at Flemington Racecourse on Saturday on way to the Group 1 next month.
Mick Price’s More Than Ready colt is one 12 three-year-olds making up the field for this year’s $200,000 Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m), which runs as Flemington Race 4 at 2:10pm (AEST) on Makybe Diva Stakes Day.
Jumping from a midfield barrier six draw with ace hoop Damien Oliver in the saddle, Ready For Victory was last seen running a first-up second to Golden Rose runner in Sydney this Saturday Gold Symphony in the Group 3 HDF McNeil Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on August 29.
He has had one previous run at Flemington when winning on debut in the Listed Festival Stakes (1000m) back in March and is tipped to perform well down the straight again currently paying $3.30 in the Danehill Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au.
Ready For Victory is also well liked occupying the second line of futures betting for the $1 million Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 10 where he’ll race in elite level company for the third time after a Golden Slipper fourth and ATC Sires’ Produce seventh.
There are four other single figure hopes in the latest markets including the market mover Black Vanquish with the rails run from barrier one with Mark Zahra in the saddle.
Well-supported early backed in from $7 to $5.50, the Tom Hughes-trained local Lonhro colt has won two of his three runs so far most recently on May 2 in the Listed Redoute’s Choice Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield.
The next best in betting are then fellow last start winner Raphael’s Cat ($6.50) and the undefeated Puritan ($8.50) before Kinglike ($9) rounds out the hopes under $10.
Gai Waterhouse’s Redoute’s Choice colt Raphael’s Cat won at Canterbury by a tidy two and a half lengths on August 19 and jumps from a nice barrier four draw with Blake Shinn in the saddle again.
Puritan is out to retain an undefeated status having won on debut last time out over 1100m at Pakenham, Saturday a notable step up in class for the Jason Warren-trained Beneteau gelding.
The Peter Moody-trained Kinglike also comes off a win, the nicely-bred Exceed And Excel colt having saluted over 1200m at Moonee Valley in late May.
Outside the single figure chances are a number of longer priced runners with a genuine chance of success in an open market including the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Redoute’s Choice filly Reemah ($13) with the outside alley to overcome, Well Sprung ($13) and Headwater ($14).
Reemah was runner-up to Pride Of Dubai in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) as a two-year-old back in February and was last seen winning first-up by a tidy margin at Geelong on August 28.
Well Sprung jumps from gate 10 for Mornington trainers Lyn Tolson & Leonie Proctor, the Star Witness colt having broken his maiden status on August 22 in the Listed McKenzie Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley.
Headwater meanwhile is the highest rated of the Danehill Stakes runners and carries the 58kg top weight accordingly under the set weights plus penalties conditions, the Team Hawkes-trained Exceed And Excel colt looking to atone for a first-up seventh in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) in Sydney in mid-August.
