La Passe Leads 2015 Myer Classic Nominations

Darren Weir’s flying mare La Passe is the headline nomination taken for Saturday’s Myer Classic 2015, the fillies-and-mares’ mile clash one of four elite levels on the Victoria Derby Day line-up at Flemington Racecourse.

Derby Day is an all-black type program and one of the feature support acts is the $500,000 Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) for the female gallopers.

A race originally on the agenda for last weekend’s Cox Plate star Winx, the Myer Classic nominations feature the in-form Street Sense five-year-old La Passe who is two from three at Flemington and stepping up to the mile for the first time this weekend.

She comes off back-to-back Group 2 wins in Melbourne this month having taken out the Blazer Stakes – Tristarc Stakes double ahead of her Group 1 test on the weekend.

The Tristarc Stakes has produced two of the past three Myer Classic winners including Red Tracer who completed the double for Chris Waller in 2013.

The mares that finished second and third respectively in this year’s Tristarc Stakes behind La Passe, who is Weir’s chance at a maiden Myer Classic win, are also nominated to back-up on Saturday with Solicit and Jessy Belle both set to take on their last start conqueror.

Gerald Ryan prepares Sydney-based five-year-old Solicit whose latest win was the Group 3 Hawkesbury Crown (1300m) in May and who is yet to win from seven previous mile runs.

She has won twice and finished third from eight Flemington runs however including a third in the 2013 Crown Oaks and she was also fourth past the post beaten only 1.6 lengths by Bonaria in last year’s Myer Classic.

Jessy Belle has run third in her three most recent runs for her Caulfield trainer Luke Oliver, the Rock Of Gibraltar five-year-old beaten by Politeness in the How Now before her top three runs in the Blazer and Tristarc.

Along with La Passe there are four other last start winners nominated for the Myer Classic this Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.

The Danny O’Brien-trained Miss Rose De Lago improved on a fourth to Amicus in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) in September to romp home at Caulfield on October 14 with a three and a quarter length victory in the Group 3 Ladies Day Vase (1600m), a race Bonaria ran seventh in before her Myer Classic upset at 25/1 last year.

Robert Smerdon’s Snippetson filly My Poppette, if accepted, will be racing twice in as many weeks after her bit two and three quarter length success in the Group 2 Moonee Valley Fillies Classic (1600m) on Cox Plate Day last Saturday.

The other two Myer Classic nominated last start winners are the fellow Smerdon-trained Politeness who comes off two Group 3 victories at Caulfield over 1200m and the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Stay With Me.

Street Cry filly Stay With Me is out to become the first three-year-old Myer Classic winner in over 20 years and comes off a one and three quarter length victory in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) on October 10.

Thousand Guineas runner-up Jameka franked the form taking out the Group 2 Moonee Valley vase (2040m) last Saturday over the boys, while Stay With Me is also nominated and leading futures betting for the $1 million Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) on November 5.

See below for the full Myer Classic 2015 nominations, the field and barrier draw out on Wednesday.
