The weather is somewhat overcast through the greater Melbourne metropolitan region and showers are expected fall over the Flemington track a few times this afternoon, however the course remains rated a Good 3 as a result of only light rain through the last seven days.

The action is set to get underway at 11:45am local time with the running of the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) for three-year-olds; culminating in four Group 1 feature races and ending with the Group 2 Salinger Stakes (1200m) at 5:20pm.

A number of the Spring Carnival’s leading three-year-olds have been confirmed to contest the 2015 Victoria Derby this afternoon, however it is the Mick Price-trained Tarzino that continues to dominate markets and appears as though he will be very hard to beat.

Group 1 racing will begin Race 4 (1:40pm local time) with the running of the Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m); a key stallion-making race for three-year-old sprinters. Exosphere is yet to taste anything but success this time but faces a tough task in the likes of Counterattack, stable mate Mogador and Singapore raider Super One.

The winner of the Group 3 Lexus Stakes (Race 5, 2500m) will gain ballot-free entry into next week’s Melbourne Cup, while a particularly talented field of local and international stars will take to the barriers for the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes (Race 6, 2000m).

A strong field of fillies and mares, including a number of Group 1 winners will contest the Group 1 Myer Classic (Race 8, 1600m) in what undoubtedly figures as one of 2015 Derby Day’s standout races.
