Emirates Stakes Next for Guvera Stakes Winner Disposition

Talented four-year-old Disposition has completed an ideal lead-up to the 2015 Emirates Stakes in completing a well-timed ride for success in the Group 3 Guvera Stakes (1400m) at Flemington Racecourse this afternoon.

Disposition was rated a clear race favourite in the 2015 Guvera Stakes leading up to jump but did his chances no favours when jumping only fairly and forced to settle at the rear of the classy field.

Caught behind runners rounding onto the final straight, jockey Damien Oliver rode Disposition for luck on the fence and was rewarded for his efforts when James McDonald pushed San Diego off the rails with 300m to run; Disposition comfortably pushing past to return to winning form in style.

Oliver delivered a typically polished performance aboard Disposition for success in the 2015 Guvera Stakes and was thrilled his decision to hold position on the fence paid dividends late in the race.

“I was a little bit further back than expected but they bunched up coming to the turn so I wasn’t too far off them,” Oliver said after crossing the line.

“I noticed them starting to open up on the side so we took the runs as they came.

“They have been winning on the inside and the track is riding a little softer than a 5, it hasn’t had time to get into the profile yet.

“It’s nice to team up with a fellow West Australian!”

Lee Freedman revealed he did not think Disposition could win the Guvera Stakes rounding onto the final straight but was understandably thrilled the four-year-old found a way through the field.

“Last on the fence at the seven here isn’t the ideal slot, but he knew what he was doing and fortunately the field opened up and he got through,” Freedman said.

Freedman has twice saddled a winner of the Guvera Stakes for success in the Emirates Stakes one week later and confirmed that will be the plan for Disposition.

“We’ve won the Emirates twice backing up from this race. This is quite a racehorse and I think it’s probably a good method for him,” he added.
