British raider Snow Sky debuted to Australian racing for fifth in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) a fortnight ago and has been confirmed in this afternoon’s official 2015 Melbourne Cup field.
A strong and consistent performer for notable trainer Sir Michael Stoute, Snow Sky has posted an impressive five wins and four minors through only fifteen career starts.
Returning this year for consecutive wins in the Group 2 Yorkshire Cup (2816m) and Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes (2414m) before a luckless run for sixth in the Group 1 King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2414m).
2014 Melbourne Cup champion Ryan Moore will take the ride on the Nayef entire, who is sure to lay a great account for himself over two miles.
Trainer Ed Dunlop has confirmed popular gelding Red Cadeaux will be saddled in the Melbourne Cup field for a fifth time in 2015, but the British trainer will launch a two-pronged attack on the race for the first time after also confirming Trip To Paris this afternoon.
Red Cadeaux announced himself to the Australian racing community when finishing an agonizingly-close second to Dunaden in the 2011 edition of the Melbourne Cup, and has since etched his name into Australian racing folklore in becoming the only horse to finish second in the featured event three times.
Having finished seventh in the Hardwicke Stakes and third in the Group 3 Geoffrey Freer Stakes (2670m) in his two most recent starts, the Cadeaux Genereux will again be partnered by jockey Gerald Mosse and will be tough to beat should the Flemington track experience any more inclement weather.
Trip To Paris booked his ticket to Australia with an impressive performance to take out the Group 1 Ascot Gold Cup (4023m) on June 18th and received an ideal tune-up for the Melbourne Cup when savaging the line for second in the Caulfield Cup a fortnight ago.
There are absolutely no questions regarding whether or not Trip To Paris will get the trip in the Melbourne Cup, and is sure to be given another gem of a ride from Tommy Berry.
The locally-trained contingent is very well represented, and arguably led by-form globetrotter Criterion, who ran on for second behind Winx in the Cox Plate (2040m) last weekend.
A four-time Group 1 winner, Criterion returned to racing this year for third in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m); progressing to second in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) before taking out the featured Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) on Day 2 of The Championships.
Posting several strong results through his recent trip abroad, the Sebring entire savaged the line for success in the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) three weeks ago and appears to be primed for a big performance in the Melbourne Cup.
Four-year-old Preferment appears to be searching for two miles and is arguably the leading contender of trainer Chris Waller’s three runners in the official 2015 Melbourne Cup field.
Stamping his claims as one to watch through a breakout 2014 Spring Carnival campaign, Preferment impressive broke through for a maiden race win in the featured Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) with a dominant performance.
Clearly needed the run and more distance when returning this time for twelfth in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m), the Zabeel entire responded well when taking out the Group 2 Hill Stakes (2000m) before repeating the dose in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) a fortnight later.
Preferment over-raced in the Caulfield Cup last start but is sure to be given a gem of a ride by leading hoop Hugh Bowman in the 2015 Melbourne Cup.
The 2015 Melbourne Cup barrier draw will be completed and released by 7:00pm Victorian time this evening, and will be immediately published on Races.com.au.
Every bet placed on a unique Melbourne Cup runner to win at Ladbrokes.com.au will gain an entry into the major $70,000 Melbourne Cup prize pool, which includes a 2015 Ford Ranger!
