Gollan Duo Top 2016 Magic Millions Sprint Field

Tony Gollan will avoid a clash with champion sprinter Buffering with his veteran galloper Temple Of Boom who instead faces off against in-form stablemate Didntcostalot in the Magic Millions Sprint 2016 at the Gold Coast Racecourse on Saturday.

Nine-year-old Piccolo gelding Temple Of Boom, out to break a notable drought dating back to April of 2014, was a dual nominee across the Gold Coast Magic Millions Race Day card this weekend in Queensland.

Instead of taking on Robert Heathcote’s six-time Group 1 winner Buffering in the $1 million Magic Millions QTIS Open Plate (1300m), Temple Of Boom runs in the card closer when the $1 million Magic Millions Sprint (1100m) takes place as Race 9 at 4:40pm.

He carries the 58kg top weight and is drawn nicely in barrier three with top Sydney jockey James McDonald in the saddle, Temple Of Boom out to improve on back-to-back sevenths at Doomben.

Gollan also saddles-up the flying Danerich seven-year-old Didntcostalot who has won four of his past five starts including the Group 3 George Moore Stakes (1200m) on November 28.

He is a five-time winner over the distance but goes up from 55kg to 57kg this weekend, Tegan Harrison booked for the Magic Millions Sprint ride from gate nine.

Gollan’s third hope in the handicap clash getting in on the 54kg minimum and drawn one wider in barrier 10, into nine if the sole emergency Liberation (1) fails to gain a run, is Sequalo six-year-old The Storeman.

The gelding comes off a first-up eighth over 900m at the Gold Coast from December 26 and boasts a good second-up record to date of four wins and a second from six attempts.

Along with Didntcostalot the other last start winners in the field are the Mark Kavanagh-trained Wild Rain and Tibrogargan Miss for the Sunshine Coast’s Darryl Hansen.

Super-consistent Manhattan Rain four-year-old Wild Rain, drawn to perfection in barrier two for jockey Glen Boss, boasts three wins and two seconds from her six previous 1200m runs, the mare having run first or second in her six latest Melbourne races.

Of those she has enjoyed two stakes wins including the Listed Doveton Stakes (1000m) at Sandown on December 5.

Tibrogargan Miss meanwhile saluted over 900m at the Gold Coast on December 19, the progressive Monashee Mountain filly drawn gate eight for her return to the track.

Also coming off nice lead-up runs are the likes of the Peter Moody-trained Weinholt and Husson Eagle drawn in barriers 13 and five respectively.

Stratum five-year-old Weinholt is yet to win over 1300m but was far from disgraced at Doomben on December 12 when third to Fontelina in the Listed Lough Neagh Stakes (1350m), while Patrick Payne’s four-year-old Husson Eagle was third over 1000m last start at Randwick on Boxing Day.

Other notable Magic Millions Sprint hopes this Queensland Summer Racing Carnival include the Gary Portelli-trained six-year-old Straturbo who defends his title after winning the race over Happy Galaxy 12 months ago and the Gerald Ryan-trained Redoute’s Choice colt King’s Troop having just his fifth career start.
