Only six runners have been confirmed to take to the barriers for Tuesday’s featured 2016 Listed Australia Day Cup (2400m) at Royal Randwick; representing a particularly intriguing betting race for punters and offering plenty of value.
Destiny’s Kiss has been charged with carrying a race-high 59kgs but remains outright $2.05 favourite to Australia Day Cup betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of Vilanova ($3) and clear market mover Dream Folk ($5).
Will Destiny’s Kiss post a second-consecutive win in Tuesday’s Australia Day Cup or will one of the five other contestants breakthrough for success?
1st
Destiny’s Kiss ($2.05)
Destiny’s Kiss will carry the most weight of all contestants in the Australia Day Cup and will leave from the outside barrier, but his recent form is exceptional and he’ll be very tough to overcome on Tuesday. Posting eleven wins and as many minors through 50 career starts so far, the Power Of Destiny gelding returned from a brief spell for third behind Medcaut and Monton in the December Handicap (1600m) on Boxing Day before taking out the Listed Gosford Cup most recently on January 8th.
2nd
Black Jag ($6.50)
The Chris Waller-trained Black Jag did not beat a runner home in the Magic Millions Cup (1800m) on the Gold Coast last time out but will relish a return to Sydney racing, a step up in distance and should find ideal running position early in the Australia Day Cup from barrier 4. Running fifth in a Rosehill minor over 1350m first-up on November 14th, the Excites gelding progressed to second in the Yarraman Village Plate (1600m) and fourth in the Adamo Café Cup (2000m) leading into his most recent start. James McDonald will take the ride on the gelding, who will carry a very-manageable 55kgs.
3rd
Vilanova ($3)
Vilanova returned to winning form with an exciting performance for success in the Listed Tattersalls Club Cup (2400m) on New Year’s Day and is a leading contender for a first three finish in the Australia Day Cup. Claiming four wins and eleven minors through 31 career starts, the Commands gelding ran third in each of the November Topaz (1900m) and Listed ATC Cup (2000m); progressing to sixth in the Listed Christmas Cup (2400m) leading into the Tattersall’s Club Cup.
