2016 PJ Bell Stakes Betting Tips & Odds

A capacity field of three-year-old fillies face off in Saturday’s PJ Bell Stakes 2016 on Day 1 of ‘The Championships’ at Randwick Racecourse, the insider betting tips and latest Fixed Win odds for the sprint showdown found below.

Perignon

Set to run as Randwick Race 5 at 2:30pm (AEDT), this autumn’s $200,000 Group 3 Dilmah Tea PJ Bell Stakes (1200m) features a full 18 starters plus an emergency in the Stuart Kendrick-trained Divine Centuri (18).

Leading the latest PJ Bell Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $4.60 for the win is the early market mover Egyptian Symbol to jump from barrier 10 with NSW Jockeys Premiership leader Brenton Avdulla aboard.

The Bjorn Baker-trained Stratum filly comes off a string of top three runs including the $2 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas at the Gold Coast in January when third to Mahuta and her last start second in the Listed Darby Munro Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on March 19.

She gets in on the 54kg again here, Avdulla knows her well and she’s got the consistency to finally win for the first time since early December last year.

The next best in PJ Bell Stakes betting are the Mick Price-trained Melbourne visitor Secret Agenda ($6.50) dropping back in class off a Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) seventh, Andrew Noblet’s last start Flemington black-type winner Super Cash ($6.50) and Gosford Guineas winning Snippetson filly Lady Sniper ($7).

So will one of the top fancies get the job done on Saturday or is there an upset PJ Bell Stakes result on the cards from the likes of Gerald Ryan’s recent Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes winner Perignon ($9) or Denmagic ($8.50) who has winning form up to 1550m?

Our 2016 PJ Bell Stakes Trifecta Tip is #1 Perignon from #3 Secret Agenda and #10 Egyptian Symbol

1st

#1 Perignon ($9)

Group 1 Flight Stakes third placegetter over the mile in the Spring, Perignon has been in top form this campaign winning the Light Fingers at the Randwick track first-up before her close third when beaten only a half-length in a blanket finish in the Group 3 Birthday Card Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on Slipper Day. She is back to Randwick this weekend and will be ready to run a big race third-up even from the wide barrier (14) that she’ll need a touch of luck from.

2nd

#3 Secret Agenda ($6.50)

This is the first Sydney run for Not A Single Doubt filly Secret Agenda, but the Price stable is flying and so was she until her unplaced run when outclassed by some of the world’s best sprinters in the Newmarket down the Flemington straight. Before that she was runner-up in the Group 3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes at Moonee Valley, and back against her own kind here should be finishing closer, if not winning.

3rd

#10 Egyptian Symbol ($4.60)

Race favourite has claims based on her super-consistent record to date that stands at three wins, two seconds and three thirds from eight starts. She goes well over the distance (3-1-2-0), including the second at Rosehill last time out in the Darby Munro. Has class proven by the Magic Millions Guineas third in January and should finish in the money again.
