The David Vandyke trained filly was coming off an eye catching second to Capitalist in the Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill a fortnight ago and franked that form a winning performance.

Hong Kong based jockey Zac Purton was aboard Yankee Rose ($3.80 favourite) in the Golden Slipper and rode another superb race today, bringing the All American filly from the second half of the field score a runaway two and a half lengths victory over Telperion ($4) with another two lengths back to $51 outsider Faraway Town in third spot.

Vandyke said that Yankee Rose had come through her first up run in the Golden Slipper in good order, but added that you really never know how they are going to go second up.

“I was very nervous about she would come through that because sometimes you don’t know how a horse is going to be second up until they run,” Vandyke said.

“I was very happy with her that last week, she has done everything right, only a kilo lighter than she was going into the Slipper and I was confident she would run a good race.”

Today’s win was Vandyke’s first Group 1 win as it was for most of the Syndicate owners of the filly.

“I am still numb. I can’t believe I have actually won a Group 1,” Vandyke said.

“To win one at Randwick. I started working here when I was a teenager and this track means so much to me more than any other.”

“The Sire Produce is such a prestigious race. She is just an amazing filly.”
