Coolring Leads All The Way in Prime Minister’s Cup

Coolring has completed and impressive start-to-finish performance to beat a classy field to the line in the Listed Prime Minister’s Cup (1400m) on the Gold Coast this afternoon.

Coolring received the greatest market share of bets for success in the hours leading up to jump this afternoon, and did his chances of justifying the support no harm when flying the gates and immediately taking up the running in the Prime Minister’s Cup.

Holding race favourite Worthy Cause on the fence in transit and rounding onto the final straight, Coolring immediately responded when asked for an extra effort and kicked clear; maintaining a strong enough sprint to withstand a late charge from an impressive Snippets Land.

Stable foreman for trainer Bjorn Baker, Jack Bruce was on hand for Coolring’s win in the Prime Minister’s Cup and revealed the horse will now be set for a feature race during the forthcoming Brisbane Winter Carnival.

“It was a great win, very happy,” Bruce said.

“He was straight to the front and relaxed beautifully.

“It was a great training performance by Bjorn – the back-up, it’s the first time he’s had a saddle on him in seven days, he’s fresh and he’s got the job done perfectly.

“We’re not sure, but we’ve got to looking at staying up here now.

“He’s thrived up here, he’s really enjoyed it and there’s plenty of options.”

Coolring was sitting at Prime Minister’s Cup odds of $8 earlier this morning, but firmed to a quote of $4.40 by jump this afternoon.

In taking out the 2016 Prime Minister’s Cup, Coolring has now posted a commendable race record of seven wins and nine minors through only twenty-seven starts, since first appearing on course in 2013.

A race like the Group 3 Lord Mayor’s Cup (1600m) at Doomben Racecourse on Doomben 10,000 looms as a likely target for the Sebring gelding following this afternoon’s triumph.
