The Cleaner has not been seen at the races in 2016, but trainer Peter Gelagotis has revealed the popular veteran is on track for a competitive return in the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 13th.
The Cleaner began his racing career in Tasmania under the care of Mick Burles in early 2011, and has posted an impressive nineteen wins and sixteen minors through a total of fifty-four subsequent starts.
Yet to have a start for Gelagotis, the Moe-based trainer told Racing Ahead The Cleaner has settled in well to his training set-up and is continuing to tick over well in the lead-up to his pending return in the 2016 PB Lawrence Stakes.
“I think he’s in pristine health,” Gelagotis said.
“He’s come through his rehab phase through the last three or four months and he’s in a good place, the horse is very, very well.
“I’m still learning about him and there’s a lot of water to go under the bridge to get to where we want to be, but we’re getting towards the pointy end of things now and there’s nothing more than anyone can do for that horse now, it’s up to him.
“We’re looking to kick him off on the 13th of August I think is the correct date, the PB Lawrence, and he’s well and truly on target for that.
“I’m quietly excited, because the horse has come back to full soundness, everything has settled down and everything has healed up.
“He’s not showing me he’s an eight-year-old or rising nine, he’s settled in very well.”
The Cleaner posted a number of impressive results through the first few years of his racing career, but announced himself to the wider Australian racing community with a dominant performance for success in the Group 2 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) during the spring of 2014; gaining ballot-free entry into the Cox Plate.
Winning the Group 3 JRA Cup (2040m) and finishing third in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) most notably that season, the Savoire Vivre gelding resuming last spring for an agonizingly-close second in PB Lawrence Stakes; progressing to success in the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes before running third in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m).
Having ended his campaign seventh in each of the Cox Plate and Listed Conquering WFA (1400m), The Cleaner has amassed an impressive $1.3 million in prize money through his illustrious career.
