Sixteen sprinters have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s Listed Lightning Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville Racecourse; highlighted by the inclusion of a number of exciting racing prospects.
John McArdle has set Power Trip for a final black type tilt as a two-year-old in the 2016 Lightning Stakes field, but the colt will undoubtedly require luck in running after drawing the wide and awkward barrier 14.
Trialling well in the lead-up to his competitive debut, Power Trip immediately stamped himself as one to watch with a strong performance for success in the Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate (1000m) on November 7th.
Reusing this year for fourth in the Listed Blue Diamond Preview C&G (1000m) on Australia Day, the Hard Spun gelding placed a luckless sixth in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude C&G (1100m) before producing arguably his best performance to date for fourth in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m).
Having returned to the paddock after clearly having enough and sixth in the Group 2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m), McArdle is thrilled with the two-year-old’s condition and is confident he will be right in the finish of the 2016 Lightning Stakes.
A number of other two-year-old runners have been confirmed in the Lightning Stakes field, including Motown Lil.
Resuming this year for second in the Toronado @ Swettenham Plate (1000m) on March 28th, Motown Lil was kept to light duties and progressed to another close second behind Modern Wonder in the Listed Dequetteville Stakes (1050m) on April 2rd.
Having resumed for third in the William Hill Handicap (1000m) at Moonee Valley on July 13th, the Sebring filly has been charged with carrying only 52kgs at Morphettville on Saturday and will be partnered by in-form hoop Daniel Moor.
Darren Weir’s impressive season has continued to go from strength to strength, and the Victorian trainer will be represented in the Lightning Stakes by Cool Snitzel.
Formerly trainer by Peter Moody, Cool Snitzel has not been seen at the races in 2016 but will jump from the ideal barrier 3 in the 2016 Lightning Stakes.
